GH4 GH4 V-log?

However it should be said that Panasonic totally suck in the way they have been silent on this...apart from a few cameras floating around...
they have said nothing...and time drags on!

I have started to think that the release of GH4 V-Log is going to be tied to the release of the DVX200 camera, so that when the dang thing finally gets released it will be with a bit of a bang! On both the DVX200 and GH4 platforms.

And again, I will be happy to plunk down $200 for this V-Log upgrade if that's what they're asking for it. Definitely looks worth it to me.

OK, so we have some 4:2:2 stuff, how well is the in camera 4:2:0 stuff going to hold up?

How much would any of you pay for V log and in camera 4:2:2?

So October 2015 then? Wailing and gnashing of teeth to follow.

It kind of - aside of offending some 60,000-70,000 GH4 owners - makes sense for them to release a much higher priced DVX200 with V-Log and then, after a few months, release this freebe for GH4.

On the other hand, it makes no sense to have the teasers out this early. The other hand of the other hand is that, as I recall, someone (was it Matt Allard?) took a shot of the V-Log up on a monitor several months ago at some major video convention (IBC? London?). Which means that this has been around a while ... and that I am out of hands ... and guesses.

Yep, Matt Allard waaaayyy back in November:

accdg to hearsay, panasonic peeps are split. there are those who want to release this and there are those who dont.

Here's my whack at grading the sample clip. Given more time, I would do a little more to her face and what's going on under the dock, but it definitely grades well. I just hope Panasonic can hurry up. I've started to care less and less about resolution and more about color (control) and highlight roll-off. A C100 MK1 purchase is slowly creeping up on me...

And now, here we are back at the crippling the camera conversation. I honestly haven't believed the camera crippling hype, and I guess it's not exactly fair to lump v-log in with that, but at the same time it is a feature that's tested and works, by all accounts, and yet they may not release it... why? Because they're afraid people won't buy their video cameras? Newsflash, it's about form factor. Whatever form factor people need, they will get. If they need xlr inputs, and a shoulder mount, then they'll get the DVX or varicam. If they need a small inconspicuous run and gun, or need to do it on a budget or need photography and video? They'll get a hybrid.

Ok... i'm impressed. I chucked this on the timeline in Prem Pro CC 2015. Put the default Alexa Log > Rec 709 LUT on using the new LUMETRI colour correction, with no other grading.. and got this... VLogL-SHOGUN_S001_S001_T008b.00_00_00_00.Still002.jpg

Am I the only one who is really happy with the great colors and gamma that the Panasonic engineers produced in their profiles, like Cine-V? I understand the use and creative possibilities of log and LUTS, but with Panasonic camera's I'm just happy I don't have to go through extra steps to get it right in the first place.

If you haven't used Canon's before, then yes the colours straight out of the camera are pretty pleasing considering... However once you look at side by sides of similar scenes with a canon camera, you will notice how much nicer skin tones are, how (for me) underwater scenes are richer. So I think these new VLOG settings will go a long in getting much nicer colours.

Loving this.

Yep Maybe...I herard the same...But the ones from Panasonic that dont want it released need to pull their heads in seriously!!
Because the competition is ramped up with the new Sony's, Samsung etc.. many GH4 users have already moved on and if they dont release it, then others will move on and Panasonic may never win them back.
This is really bad for their reputation and therefore their business...no doubt about it!
They need to get a clue, this is 2015 and the age of consumers being wooed here and there by bigger and better products offering more bang for the buck and more upgrades,
if they hold back and dont release it, then they will be viewed as another Canon by many ...and there will be a lot of angry GH4 owners that will feel duded by the V-Log GH4 hype that never happened.

Actually I have used Canon, and I prefer Panasonic colors/gamma - also when it comes to skintones. But hey, I guess we all have our preferences. Not trying to get into a 'this is better' argument :)

Yes I think that now they have sent it around it would be very foolish to decide not to release it. Very bad PR. Cine-V and some of the other profiles are OK, but colour is a common complaint with the GH4 and V-Log is a really big jump in image quality. Surely they have to release it now. I for one will be looking elsewhere if they don't release it soon ...
