as to the ethics question I say just do it and spread the word as far as possible. Why? Leverage. It would force Panasonic to bring out a new date that no one could refuse, full vlog. 14 stops of Dr. And any one who says that is not possible go play with raw in still photo mode. That I will pay for and will settle for nothing less.
 
So what's Panny's next move? They pretty much have to refund everybody, right? I don't think they can get away with charging people for it if half the world already got it for free.

And the unlucky folks who are "off the grid" for whatever reason and miss today's news, will they have to pay for it? I'm very curious to see how this plays out. I still have my preorder with B&H, I'm going to sit on that until there's an official announcement. I'd hate to cancel and somehow get screwed.

Seems like the only way Panasonic can get people to pay now is to release a new update with a new exciting feature that requires the Vlog activation code. Maybe 10-bit internal, or something.
 
Okay, I downloaded the app, I have upgraded the camera, now Im installing the Bluestack program to run apps on PC. What would be the next step, I plug the camera with usb to pc?
I serously need help, not everyone is a Bill Gates type of tech guy.

Panasonic should patch the "Image" app and continue with business as usual.

If you want to support Panasonic you can pay for this GH4 upgrade, if not then that's your choice.

If nobody is willing to pay for the upgrade, then don't expect any further upgrades from Panasonic in the future.

PC ?

You must use an Android or iPhone and 1.9.5 Image App from Panasonic. Create a new connection on the app and start the Wifi on the GH4 and just select VLog in the App.

Maybe GH4 & VLog are not for you if you can't even use a simple app because it will require to use an Antilog to process your footage and a serious XP in colorgrading to avoid noise in your footage.

That's an interesting point. Hopefully this incident doesn't have a negative effect on their plans for the GH line, that would be terrible.

Find someone with an iPhone or Android...although I have to say...setting up the Image App for remote control is a giant pain in the ass.
 
It will take donkey years before we in Asia can purchase the V-log. I try calling Panasonic Asia and they don't seem to have a clue on what I was asking.
Great that I can beta test V-log now.

I will pay for a copy when its available here :)

No more updates, I don't think so. That would be an epic marketing fail. Who knows maybe the pro division where the varicam resides did force the paying for the update on the consumer division where the gh4 resides. May be someone in the consumer division cleverly did it purpose. That would be very unJapenese, as the nail that sticks up gets knocked back down, my rebellious wife used to work for Honda.

is someone high up in the consumer division close to retirement.

It's not possible. They've spent a year adapting V-Log for the DVX200 and GH4 already.
 
I think this is quite embarrassing for all of you to pile on here. It is a $99 upgrade that totally improves the camera yet folks are acting like Panasonic owes it to them and will they will make em' pay by stealing it. Really? And you wonder why Panasonic broadcast has left this space blank (AF200)? Why would any company want to "serve" this market? A $1,300 camera that shoots 4k video that now costs $1,400. You could pay this off in one or two real jobs. Yet an error leads to people hoarding the mistake so people can continue to steal it going forward.

Why this hysteria to get something for free? Do you not want to compensate the engineers that are bringing this to fruition on a stills camera?

You have just witnessed several Panasonic engineers lose their jobs. I just did the update and can confirm that there is no way in hell Panasonic can sell V-Log L now. I wonder if I will get a refund? Not that I will cancel my order, because it's still worth the $100 to me, but I'm curious what Panasonic's reaction to the customers will be. Does anyone have GH4 sales figures just to try and guess what their losses may be?
