GH2 GH3 or BMC m4/3?

Kholi... you're a saint.

tOnly on Thursdays and Saturday mornings. xD

Of course, as well, in the end you should just choose what's going to be right for what you're shooting. Magic Cam won't have 60P, won't be as compact as a GH3 with just batteries and the XLR grip, so on and so forth, so yeah. Not having to choose is really the only solution I can see working (for me) xDDDDD

So...what? I'm to bring a generator on every shoot? That'll be real convenient traipsing through the jungle on a doc shoot.
Yes, Jim. Bring a generator. Preferably a 12,000 watt diesel. And, ideally, bring a second one for backup, you know, just in case.

If I can edit and work with Raw Epic 5k files on an i5 Imac I'm more than sure I can do it with the BMCC which is a lot less.... Raw is honestly not that difficult, it's just more time consuming. So instead of a couple of hours of converting normally it might now take you a day or two, but the end is worth it, IF the project calls for it

RED RAW is compressed and BMCC RAW is uncompressed. Big difference in computing overhead.

BMCC raw is not compressed like RED? Didn't know that or have not seen that confirmed? Anyways it's not that serious, personally to me no need to shoot raw when I have been shooting with lesser cameras for years... Pro Res at such a high quality would be better than most cameras anyone is using now.

The RAW from BMCC can be compressed with Cineform RAW with a nearly imperceptible loss in quality and at high speeds. After converting to Cineform RAW, the files play and edit perfectly on my 2 year old i7 laptop at a quarter of the file size. Now if only the BMCC itself could record directly to Cineform RAW.

Does everyone realize third parties already released external battery options for the BMC? V Mount adapters and self contained 5-6 hour battery grips are for sale for BMC right NOW.

It appears Blackmagic Design has listened to its customers and introduced a new flavor of the BMC ... There's now an EF mount version and a Micro 4/3 version. The m4/3 is a passive mount, meaning you can't control electronic Lumix lenses. This doesn't bother me since all the glass I have for my GH2 is manual anyway. And for filmmaking purposes, you really should be using manual lenses for greater control.

I think a passive m4/3 mount is totally pointless. I also don't see how manual lenses are better for filmmaking. I agree that automatic control should be avoided but that's something else.

I like to control shutter and aperture from the camera. That's how I shoot with the GH2 and Lumix lenses and it's called shooting with manual settings using electronically controllable lenses and it's a feature I would expect from a hyped product like the BMC. But they aren't able to sort out the electronic controls for m4/3 lenses. That's a bit sad for an electronics developer/manufactorer, isn't it?

For now, the BMC doesn't exist for me. I'm happy that I didn't fall for the "will be delivered in August" promise in July. I almost ordered it, but then kicked myself for the butt to wake myself up.

Once the BMC does exist, I'll watch developments from a safe distance and if people report it's good and reliable, I'll consider purchasing the EF version. But for now I'm much more curious about the GH3. It will probably a better camera but with a less sexy look because it will only look like a normal still camera instead of an iPad.

No, it's because neither Panasonic nor Olympus have seen fit to publicly release documentation on the electronic lens control protocols of the MFT mount. For an "open" system, that's pretty shortsighted, don't you think?

People invented reverse engineering for that, but using the results of that would probably run them into legal problems. What happened to that mount adapter people were talking about last year, and provided electronic control for EF lenses on a Nikon or m4/3 mount?

BMc gh3 they are all great news for the cause of cinema or other audio visual endeavors . But the gh series will always a b cam. I have yet to see a decent film completely shot with this $900 camera. So let's all be realistic with the right perspective.

In fact I continue to shoot with my dvx100 equipped with anamorphic lens then I uprezzed it to prores and the
images are still stunning.i am finishing a project dvx mixed with my hack gh1 and you would hardly notice a difference.i am thinking shooting with digital 8 also.
my dvx100 in this case is my main cam and my gh2 my b cam.

Its not the machine it's the manitou you put in those machines.

I will gladly disagree with you based on the fact that lesser cameras have had films shot on them. You sir are 100% incorrect if you think a camera is what makes a good film.....
