GH2vk might not be intuitively connected to GH13 but why does it have to? Two different cameras, two separate brands. The GH2 hack should stand on its own. I don't want my GH2 to be connected to the GH1, yesterday's inferior technology.

What did Vitaliy mean when he said the image from the GH2vk "looks like a picture"? Was he merely saying the image was very clean, or did he mean it is possible to get IQ from the hacked GH2 to approach the resolution of stills? I just can't imagine that being possible.

At what bitrate would the hacked GH2 video images begin to look like still images? Does this pertain only to MJPEG, because it's got to be at a very high bitrate and my understanding is that AVCHD is limited to a certain bitrate that can't even approach the IQ of still images.

Can someone with the knowledge explain for us mere mortals?

He meant the compression at very high bit rates with B frames approaches the compression of jpg images. There is essentially no perceptible degradation from the compression. However, there also is no gain in resolvable resolution. The image will look very clean but it won't look like 4K if that is what you are expecting.

Been away for a few weeks, Nice suprise to return to. I have skimmed through the thread, and maybe im missing something, But out of respect for vitaley, and the EFFORT he's put into this, wouldn't it be best to let him name HIS HACK, what he wants it. Please dont take this the wrong way, I'm sure it's probably no big deal. But probably best to let him decide.

On a different note, This is insane, Once again, AMAZING WORK!!!

Yes. And he should, but it doesn't seem like he would other than "stalin," which is more of a code name for the hack. How did "GH13" come about, did he name that himself?

The new PTool 3.61D is not better - I think it degrades the original 1080/24pN with patch at 24pN

I'm certainly not agreeing to this statement.
Please actually show us real original mts files that support this perception.
If it's due to noise as you mentioned before, well this is due to the higher quality higher bit rate AVCHD is offering more finer detail... hence noise!
Now we are getting closer to the sensor image. The noise can now be more accurately removed if one chooses to.

I think you are just upset with the garbage frame the image starts off with. Because other than that the image looks great. In your recent Vimeo upload you can see in the first couple of scenes that your daughter's hair had much finer detail in the GH-2 capture. The overall image looked more detailed. I don't understand what you are upset about (other than the garbage frame in the begining). If you are pissed about the noise in some shots....don't be. I always hated the "smoothing" effect of a highly compressed AVCHD....especially in the shadow areas. You should really stop demonizing PTool 3.61D. People are still testing it to get the best out of it.
