Thanks, dcloud. I know a lot of us, including me of course, are extremely excited about AF100, but when the time comes, I know I will be looking at GH2. And use the money saved from going with GH2 over AF100 to replace my two old water heaters.

I'd take cold showers for a few months if it meant I could have an AF100.

Would I be crazy to buy the GH1 right now? These rumors are killing me. I'd hate to pull the trigger, only to see the GH2 released right away and the price of the GH1 drop.

And yes, I know you can't wait for the next thing because there's always something new around the corner. I'm just curious what you all think.

I don't have a GH1, but if I wanted to get a DSLR type camera immediately, it would be a GH1. Among the HD DSLR cams, it has the best video capabilities, which is what I would be looking for, such as longer recording time and auto-focus. I considered the Canon T2I until I read it has the same 12 minute recording time limit of the 5D and 7D. I don't think it would be crazy to get a GH1 now. When it became available in mid-2009, it was at least $1500 and now it is roughly $1250. If I am not mistaken, the GH1 did not become available for at least six months after it was announced. Since there hasn't been a successor to the GH1 announced yet, it doesn't seem likely it would be this year, but you never know.

For me, GH2 would be perfect...

If, of course, it had some of the key features of the AF100 for less than $1,500 with something like the 14-42 lens. Faster bit rate, improved codec, and better DR would be very nice. While having AF100 would be lots of fun, a GH2 style camera would be much better for my needs.

Regards,

Dan.

Just got it today, and I have to say the major selling point besides the longer recording times was the articulating LCD screen. Right out of the box, just checking over its form factor and all, I'm very happy with the decision. I had purchased a 7D back when it just hit the market, but returned it almost immediately because it just didn't feel like something I could shoot video with. The GH1 does.

Any news about GH2? When is next big elctronic show that GH2 could be published? I have to say that the new hacked firmware that tester13 is doing is making GH1 much much more interesting. Should I buy GH1 tomorrow, or wait a little bit more?

Photokina is the next big photo event, G1 was announced then and since the G2 was announced 18 months later, im assuming that the GH2 is gonna be out 18 months after the GH1 (March 09)

Tester13's progress does look good indeed, but personally, I'm gonna wait for the GH2 to come out as even if that doesnt deliver, the GH1 will be cheaper by that time regardless

I'm sure that Panasonic is going to put a bullet-proof lock on the firmware for the GH2 with all that is going on with the GH1 firmware hack.

That would be unfortunate. If Tester13's hack evolves into some really useful stuff, there will be a big surge in GH1 sales... so ultimately it's a good thing for the consumers because it will force the industry to match or exceed functionality in the wild.

With Sony NEX7 rumored to have 24fps, 60fps at 1080p and 60fps, 120fps at 720p, I hope GH2 will have more options in fps rates such as 24fps, 30fps, 60fps at 1080p and 24,30,60,120 at 720p.

Apparently theres no g10 in japan...
Heres their actual lines based on the website
slr (g2)
fashion (gf1)
hd (gh1)

Do you think the GH2 will be region unlocked (not sure that's the right term), by that I mean, will it be like the 7D where you choose between PAL and NTSC then select the approriate framerates, or will it be the same as the GH1, ie the region you buy it in is hardcoded into it?
