GH2 Rumors Thread

Taken from the article linked in my prior post.

Earlier in the event, Sony's Suzuki sees the following trends in digital CMOS sensors:

  • Ultra high speed
  • Global shutter
  • Wide dynamic range
  • Increasing depth of field
It seems Panasonic aren't alone in pursuing a global shutter for their video DSLRs!!

GH2?

Probably not but still very interesting stuff coming up.

Love to see Global Shutter.

Say it with me.

No.
More.
Jello!

sincerely,

ian

I posted the link with some kind of question mark because Barry might be right, this article doesn't really state that the Pana engineer was talking about an actual GH2 sensor, just about future Panasonic sensors in general.

The author himself makes a connection to a "GH2", not the engineer, that's why I asked if someone has attended the conference last week.

The Sony guy obviously gave some very precise facts about their newest sensor, but then again, who knows when it'll be ready for production.

The author of the article is commanderspike and when I tried to post a link it oddly turned into a dvxuser link.

I know he has some history here because I've been following this forum for a while before I registered to learn about video. However, I never really followed all these goings on because I am more interested in useful info rather than personalities, and I soon lose interest in unsupported opinions. So I posted this as a sort of for your information type thing as no one else seemed to have picked this up when discussing this article, which is being referenced all over the web.

This has already been posted but just in case people haven't read it yet.

For sure we'll know more within a month. It's like I said earlier, no matter how much technology they put into this, at the very least, offer native 24p and do not disable external output when recording. Never mind that fact that they still haven't fixed their supply issues in the US. The GF1 with the 20mm lens is still hard to find. If only the US dollar was stronger, Panasonic wouldn't be starving the US market.

Commanderspike burned a lot of bridges here through personal attacks and excessive posting of rumors as fact. There's an auto censor in place on his site because he has since re-registered numerous times here under aliases to stir up trouble and to try and drive traffic to his site.

Unfortunately there's a lot more that happened that's behind the scenes and a big distraction so bear with us on the mod end as we just want to keep things civil and the drama to a minimum. Those of you who have been here awhile can remember what happened, and those new to the site will just have to trust us that the booting and censor were well earned.

Not necessarily!

Companies don't always have something new to announce when they go to a show. Nothing in that press release said anything about showcasing "new" products or introducing or announcing new products. It said they would be showing off their lineup.

There may or may not be something new there, we won't know until it happens, but there's no reason why there HAS to be a new product announcement.

Thanks as I wasn't aware of this and I wasn't trying to publicise the article, which appears to contain a lot of speculation presented as fact. I was just providing info for people to make up their own minds. I'm a mod on another forum with a policy of friendly dialogue so I understand your policy. The only reason I am here is to learn about video and whilst I am interested in the way cams are going so I can make my own decisions, this article didn't IMHO contain anything that indicated concrete developments in the near future.

no, rumor sources are saying you'll have to wait until september. You probably will see a G1 undate and possibly a LX3 undate.

If nothing else, rumors can be fun. :-)

And if you're interested in cameras in general, and not just cameras from Panasonic, then this rumor is really interesting if true:
http://sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-sony-a700-successor-at-pma/

Yes I saw that rumour and it sounds quite interesting, plus we should know whether its true very soon. I don't like to speculate too much. However, I do remember a Sony official being asked why there wasn't any video on their DSLRs at a previous photo show and their response was that they didn't think that the video implementation on the other DSLRs was very good, and that when they did it they would do it properly. I wasn't quite sure if they meant the video image quality or the lack of the normal automated features like AF that consumers normally want. So perhaps Sony are the wild card that might do something no one expected. Mind you as I have both a 4/3 DSLR system and a Canon DSLR system it would make it even more difficult to decide which system to go with for video, as that's my interest in what's coming along.
