GH2 Rumors Thread

I totally wish that all these rumors re: GH2 are true - I would be very happy even if only HALF were true. But I think at this time its just serving to depress sales by making some folks hold out for a cam that might not even exist yet.

BTW, does anyone have an idea on Panasonic's track record regarding rumors?

"UPDATE: we made a first check and we are not convinced the rumor could become true. We are still waiting for some info from known sources."

I'd say that if this rumoured GH2 indeed has FullHD out over HDMI that's a pretty big frackin' difference as that means one could bypass the AVCHD 4.2.0 encoding and capture a much better file with a external recorder or even uncompressed with a computer.

Is that not the case with the GH1?

These all rumors are simply mere fantasy for web traffic hype. Just wait for the PMA show or prior press releases and you'll see what the reality effectively brings.

Gh2 rumors thread

If you see a rumor and want to write about it please post it here. I'm making this a sticky. This is to try and cut down on the countless threads that are circulating hot air.

I'm personally not too concerned with a GH2 being released quite yet. I don't have money growing on a tree in my backyard (that I know of) and wouldn't be able to afford another camera 6 months after I just got one. Which brings me to my next point....

Does anyone else REALLY hope (when the GH2 does gets released) that Panasonic offers the option to purchase the body-and-lens but also just the body, much like they did with the 7D?

This for me would be a perfect situation considering I, like a lot of people, already have two nice micro4/3 lenses (14-140mm & 20mm) and Canon FDs. I would be more than willing in fall (or whenever) to upgrade to a new body for $6-800, but I wouldn't want to shell out another $1500.

Yes. I'm also hoping they take a page out of Canon's playbook and come out with a camera that does Pal and NTSC. As good as the kit lens is I'm not interested in spending 800 bucks on it. If they sold body only for a thousand and with improvements that'd be neato.

The GH1 *with lens* is almost down to $1000... I've seen it for $1249. Imagine at body-only at around $599, it'd be so killer.

But they are already selling body only.
And thats the thing with m43, that you adopt a standard with lens that you will keep and bodys that will get better sensors with time.
I hope...

Yeah having a body only option without having to go into second hand retailers (ebay) would be great and make it more likely that I'll upgrade so soon.

Panasonic has so many digital cameras and they could continue to do both G model and GH model. But the H stands for HD-video so this leaves the G without HD-video which I don't think will be a big seller.

Every still camera has video recording so expect this in every future model.

If you look at what features they add as they upgrade their cameras only minor design, ergonomic and some features missing in the previous model are addressed. There's always some improvements like better sensor, higher resolution etc. But really no big leaps.

I do expect a better sensor and minor improvements in a GH2. But if they go for something like a GH5 things can get really exciting!

What is up is called price skimming.
[Price skimming is a pricing strategy in which a marketer sets a relatively high price for a product or service at first, then lowers the price over time. It is a temporal version of price discrimination/yield management. It allows the firm to recover its sunk costs quickly before competition steps in and lowers the market price.]

Amazon and B&H both lowered the GH1 with kits lens price to $1223.95. Hmmmm - what's up?
You may have missed the news a month ago that Amazon & others were starting to match Dell.com's price on the GH1:

Dell.com has been selling the GH1 for $1,249 since the first week of Dec. '09.

As for what's up: The GH1 seems to be selling well, inventory is moving out, and hopefully the new model/version which will eventually, inevitably replace it is coming "soon". Although how soon is anybody's guess. My guess is the "GH2" (or whatever it'll be called) will first be available for sale probably in Japan & probably by late March. Pure speculation on my part. Meanwhile the current model GH1 is getting more & more affordable.

im speculating their gonna make this line up:
gf1 - entry level
g1/g2 - mid level
gh2 - Pro level

Im hoping the gh2 gets the PRO treatment. bigger body. better encoding. bigger processor. less aliasing. I mean their lens setup is probably the best and unmatched in terms of video autofocus...

i dont think the broadcast division will have a m43 anytime soon... maybe the next year or two

It will be stupid for them to stop producing a GH1 equivalent. The GH2 should not be a pro range model. It should remain an affordable camera.
