GH2 Pre-orders

Would it make a difference if I change my shipping speed at this point? (ordered it with the free shipping from Amazon) I'm not hip to "Prime" I'll have to investigate that.

My GH2 Amazon pre-order (black w. 14-42mm lens) still says:

Order Placed:
September 25, 2010

  • Delivery Address:
    Peter J. DeCrescenzo
    ...
    United States
  • Shipping Speed: FREE Super Saver Shipping
  • Order Total: $999.95

Shipment 1 of 1: The following item will arrive after December 25, 2010.

Not yet shipped Delivery Estimate: November 30, 2010 - January 4, 2011

======================

I also have it pre-ordered on Adorama, and "notify me" with B&H ... standing by ...

My order placed october 18th with next day shipping still reads "November 23, 2010 - December 24, 2010." Maybe because I have prime?

My order (9/22, 14-140, Amazon US) still lists estimated delivery as December 16th. Upgrading to next day via Prime gave me a real shipment date rather than a range for those interested in trying. I can't tell if US orders for the 14-140 will arrive after the 14-42 kits...

Remember, guys the release date is right around Thanksgiving. Next day air is guaranteed to get there the next business day. If it goes ground it could take more than a week around the holidays. Basically, your shipping speed has more to do with when you get the GH2 than when your original pre-order was placed.

My suggestion is get prime and use the $4.00 next day air. It will get it to you about 1 week earlier.

The Black 14-42mm ones are the only ones that Amazon is expecting to get in their shipment on Friday/Monday. I think that some shops will get them Tomorrow and have them out to the customers by this weekend.

I ordered the 14-42mm black so we'll see :)

If you do a search on google shopping, GH2's are starting to pop up everywhere in website catalogs. Non are in stock, but they must have gotten some word that they would be shipping or available for 5 or 6 to pop up over night. Specifically, Provantage now lists it, but didn't yesterday. I bought my first dvx from them in 2004 :)

Just like I've been saying last year when the GH1 was extremely difficult to get, try calling up local authorized dealers. When I finally decided to order a GH1 in July of last year, I called up an authorized dealer to see how their stock is or when their getting any in and they told me that they have 1 left. I immediately took a trip to the store and walked away with it on the day that I called. You never know.

When you put yourself on a gigantic line, it can be chaotic but the ratio of people wanting the camera compared to how many will be in stock may be better in a smaller store.

Black 14-140 from Adorama on 11/04 1499.95.
Just spoke to someone and they have no idea when they are getting in. Also got a one from provantage after seeing Rojomojos post.

Black 14-140 from Provantage on 11/16 1346.59 + 6.45 = 1353.04. The site says 3-4 weeks but the person i talked to said 2-3 weeks. Gonna cancel the slower one as soon as one ships. Hope provantage is first as id save a bit and can use it on cards or an adapter. Just wish i wasnt so late to the party but i dont like Amazon.

That's what my Amazon order says. I'm an Amazon Prime member. Don't know if that makes a difference. I think I pay $75 a year for the membership(free 2 day shipping) though it's more like 3-4 in actuality.

Can't wait to get the GH2. It will be my first DSLR or even SLR for that matter, ever. I ordered it with the 14-42mm lens. I've been buying cheap Canon FD, some Sears, lenses on ebay. Just bought a Vivitar 60-400mm on ebay for $50.

Have you bought the adapters already? Make sure you get the ones with a continuous aperture control. Oh yea make sure you have a steady hand for that 60-400mm. That thing has to be a beast of a lens.

Got a quote for a black GH2 and 14-140 at B&H. I have an in there and hopefully I will be seeing one of the earlier ones released. I had store credit and they already processed payment for the GH2 so I am hoping it won't be december as their site says. I will update when I get it.

I have an adaptor for FD lenses I bought on ebay. As for continous aperture lenses, I've read about those and found that they are very expensive, unless I'm missing something. As for support of the Vivitar 400mm lens, I have a nice Bogen 501 head and tripod and the seller said that the lens comes with a tripod mount permanently attached. I'll use it for nature shots mostly and shots of the moon so I will use good support so it doesn't shake.
