If we talk about facts, the only footage that has been publicly posted from any GH2 PAL prototype so far has been the "real" 50i, not 25PsF. Yes, Mr. Bloom has said what he did but it may very well be that he is mistaken. At the end of the day, we can talk about "factual" information when it has been publicly posted by an "official" source. The camera is not even shipping yet, so the only fact here is that we don't know and those who do don't tell.

For those who didnt click the link I posted, what Bloom says is "the 25p mode is the same as the gh1 mode. 17mb/s embedded in a 50i stream"

it is better now. So in your first post where you hadn't posted the link yet, you should have written "yes" about the fact GH2 brings 25p (in a 50i container though), not "nope" instead.

It doesn't matter:
25 encoded in 17mbs interlaced wouldn't be worth the trouble anyway; the clear winner is 24p at 24.

It is defiantly sending a clean signal out (not avchd compressed). I can visually see this as grain/noise is not compressed where as on the avchd clips, much of the really tight "grain" is compressed out and smoothed by the compression.

Regarding the 17 seconds "freeze frame" myth:

I dont have an hdmi recorder, but I just did three tests where I did a continuos pan while pixel peeping on a 1080p monitor (via hdmi out) while recording, there are no frame studders anywhere (I recorded for 60 seconds and was scruntizing the 17 seconds area) looks like its pumping true 23.98 out of the hdmi 4:2:2 with no noticeable compression and no "freeze frames".

So GH2's HDMI outputs 1080p24, not only 1080i? As 1080i container?

will someone clear up the situation with the hdmi ???

for me it is important not that much in terms of compression as much for the DTE, in no way I do not want to edit AVCHD files, or to spend time for converting !!!
 
Honestly, I think the reason they have withdrawn the product from sale for another 2 weeks is so they can do something with the hdmi output, ie make it worse, I wonder if they have realised its better than the af100 LOL?

if that is so- i have a good early Japanese model... i hope they won't find a way to cripple that too.
 
You made a good call, but it would be mad(well maybe not) to buy an ntsc version for UK only use unless I knew 100% it would be hacked in the future, oh well.

i'm also in PAL land, but i'm not intending to focus on broadcast, only on theater screenings. worst case, i'll make a certain project 25p in the end.
 
Now they launch the GH2 in the ME? Man they cant even ship to the other regions, what a fiasco, maybe they routed all the European ones to the Middle East becuase they'd forgot to put the 30min cap on, honestly Panasonic are an aboslutely useless bunch, however, maybe I get a good price from one in Dubai, I know lots of people who can get me one from Dubai, I may even be able to swing a trip myslef, bu not until the New Year, was only there a month ago. All PAL?, Yes.

No, seriously, this might be a good move for the ME supply for us PAL users, if you know somebody in Dubai they can buy it tax free, save 20%, get them to ship it privately packaged, no duty to pay, or decalre as a min value.:cheesy: honestly, I'm getting mine from Dubai much better deal, no 30min cap, pal format. yes!
 
The confirmation of the hdmi output is killing me. It was not yesterday that Philip bloom was supposed to do some test. The last big big unknown about the GH2 even if everything is pointing out that we will get 24 fps uncompressed 1080p image out of it. It would be another milestone in the dslr video image quality. It would put it as a mainstream and would force the other manufacturers to do so in their next models. Ahhhhhh the wait is killing me.

maybe they kidnapped Bloom and now forcing him to make a false statement...
 
eos hd is due to test it this week as well, and against the 60d, so we'll just have to wait, Bloom has gone to ground as does everybody else who gets a GH2 tells everybody and then says they cant test the HDMI? it is beyond annoying now, the cameras have been around for a month and still knowbody has the faintest idea, incredible.

Sorry, just VERY busy with work...as soon as I get a chance I will test it out. There simply are not enough hours in the day.
