GH2 official discussion thread

I don't have experience with these particular tools, but what card exactly is this? The only one I see on BlackMagic website that's called HD Extreme is "Decklink HD Extreme 3D"
Next, what mode are you shooting on the camera? What HDMI out setting is selected (pg 61 of the English manual)?

damn this Blackmagic. i shoot on the 24H, HDMI auto. we must find an expert... it's probably some kind of a dumb thing you have to do.. i'm googling for answers.
(btw- on a monitor the cam outputs fine)
it's the HD extreme but without the 3d i suppose. looks the same.

Try shooting in the regular 1080/60i mode. Perhaps this Blackmagic card does not support 24p mode native. We must isolate the problem.

Why don't you enter directly with the manufacturer? They have fame of good support. They will probably help you out. I'd even suggest direct on the phone.

trying all options. so what do i set the capture device to: 1080i 59.94?

at least i get some kind of green flashing on the capture screen when i turn the camera on...

sorry guys, i'm about to give up. tried all options, no answer on the net. something had to show up anyway. i don't think it's just format settings.

We know your GH2 outputs (to TV). Do you know if this card actually works, i.e. captures anything from another device?

this Blackmagic is work horsed here every day via SDI capturing to final cut for broadcasting.
so- there might be a specific problem with the card & HDMI that no one figured out yet.
or- some settings i am not able to resolve
or- Panny crippled the recordings option by HDCP (not logical as i recon someone wrote here that they did manage to capture something.. am i wrong?)

Hi Roei: I agree with Emanuel. In addition to your trying to get the GH2 & Black Magic capture card working on your own, if you haven't already down so I'd recommend sending emails to BM technical support. Hopefully they will be able to assist you, but if not at least you have established a "paper trail" with them.

BM may have tech support in your part of the world, but note that in case they have to contact BM here in the US, tomorrow starts a long holiday weekend (Thanksgiving) here, so that may delay any response until at least next week. Good luck!

press record on the gh2?:cheesy: prores is good, but do you need to press record on gh2 or are you in"live-view"?

When you press record on the gh2, if you are 24p mode, it is supposed to go progressive... I wonder if it is in 60i mode it goes to 60p with gh2 record?

i need full instructions guy- please lets do this step by step.
right now i tried to capture and i still have the q. menu square on frame (when not recording on camera of course)

listen- when i record on camera AND capturing- the frame judders more than usual , like on the lcd while recording (as you probably know), and while it looks progressive, it also records the extra judder, so capturing while recording is not a good option, at least from what i see.
how do i remove the little square q.menu icon form the display?

I wonder if that judder you are seeing is just the natural strobe of 24p?
If the judder is really pronounced (more stop and go than continuous looking) then it could just be one of the following:
-the blackmagic capture frame rate (60?) is not matching up with the new rate on the gh2 (24?) or
-the monitoring of the recording on the computer is just not able to keep up with the frame rate while capturing, and the actual capture will play smooth

* 24p can look really juddery after watching a lot of 60

the captured footage looks the same as on the lcd while you capture. judders more than 24p for sure (actually strobby)
why do we want to record on camera? what's the advantage in that? isn't it better to just capture? it still looks 24p. nothing looked like 60i since i begun viewing. not here and
not on the monitor.

guys- all the camera setting are fine, shutter , mode etc.
right now troubles are ahead- i get dropped frames because of the difference in formats. i need to fix this first.
it means i cannot capture 24p. only 60i.
these exsperiments can take a whole day.
lets try to be precise for a minimal test for now.

So this definitely means that the framerate coming out of the hdmi during record is not matching up with the framerate the card is capturing to.
This could either mean that the gh2 is not out putting 24p when recording, or it is and the card is set to capture 60 from the point the monitor feed started.

The reason to press record on the gh2 is because several people who tried it mentioned that this is when the camera starts outputting 24p instead of 60.
I wonder if you have to 'turn on' the black magic feed on after the gh2 is recording in 24p?
