GH2 official discussion thread

Looks pretty good, blacks dont look a noisey mess on my screen, downloading original though to check. At the start the aliasing on those stripey block arrangment on the platform floor is very impressive, it seems totally under control. I bet there are any dslrs that wouldnt go into meltdown over that.

In fact look at the guys shirt cuffs! impressive, the railings in the background, this could be a video nightmare and does really well, lost going on.

that's what i tested yesterday in my room:
http://www.mediafire.com/?87falcypd7s77br

the Japanese menu was tough to crack but i'm almost sure it was: native 24p, ISO200, 1/60 canon fd 28mm 2.8
edited cinema settings all -2 except that noise reduction i left on 0

does it look as bad as i think? am i doing something wrong?

Everything that is static looks great.
As soon as something moves, there is mud or un-sharpness.
Good to see when the sleeves are moving and during the red flowers.

The same int he original material?

Is it 1080 or 720?

Analyze is too much, but I have just wathched it on an HDMI monitor and I do not see any noise or artefacts.

Well it is 1080 30fps mp4.
Same in the original files and on an HDMI monitor.

Would be interesting so see something filmed with AVCHD

Not bad, I don't know why but on my computer I had to manually turn on deinterlacing, the original file wasn't flagged as interlaced for some reason

same here, the iq is very good, this must have been through an editor and outputted to mp4 too, so some lossof iq too. The resolution looks way above 720p and motion imo is smooth.

This is interesting and clearly demonstrates that the GH2 is a 1.8x crop in video. As you will see the user thought the 300mm pana lens will be the same as a Canon 400mm lens, the 300mm is shorter in fl as you will see.

Essentially as shown the Canon is a 1.6x400mm =640mm vs 300mmx1.8=540mm and it is obvious to see. Panasonic is holding its own and it may of been a good idea to use the ex tele to equalise the shots, a 130-140 would of done it, no need to stop down!

got the GH2 from Japan..
took me half a day to get it working cause of the damn menus.
If you have access to an HDTV or monitor with HDMI in would love to know the exact frame rates established in different modes (live view, cinema mode, 1080/60 mode and 720 modes). Thanks!

i wish i had.. i might find one at work tomorrow

roei z, were you clips shot in 24H (24mbps) or 24L (17mbps) mode?, your clips do show a bit of mosquito noise in the dark areas, though from what I saw on another persons clip you can remove that post.

you can call me just Roei ..
you're talking my face footage?
i just put it on 24H and took off of from there, but was told that - you're going to have to raise the ISO even if you want the final image to be that dark, with the kind of light you have that is too punishing for ISO 200 (richard travis)

Image quality test with a good deal of native mts-files. But please read the description first: http://www.vimeo.com/16844081 And a big thanks to Richard Travis for all his effort and kind help!

I just looked at the file titled "24p cinema test1.MTS". Now that is sharp. So many details in that wide shot that would be major issues, and it held up. Damn HDMI out to nano etc will be awesome...

Thanks Richard Travis for doing these tests...
