GH2 official discussion thread

In the closeup, the GH2 has more detail, less aliasing (check out the Happy Birthday on the cake), and slightly less banding.
To my eyes at equivalent exposure settings GH1 appears to be a tad more sensitive. But yes, less aliasing on GH2 and author stated no banding present in original footage.

GH2 do not have GH1 like banding in normal ISO settings (up to 3200).

But in GH2 footage you can see sometimes very strange horizontal moving bands (in blue-red color).
Very weird. You could see this things even on static shots in very high ISO settings.

I really don't mind waiting longer for them to fix the weird issue. I would hate to pay full retail price for beta version #2.

I posted elsewhere that same concern about getting the first batch of hardware. If Amazon really puiled the GH-2s as reported on the rumors site, maybe there is some fixing needing to be done beyond a mere firmware update. Bloom could not get any good results with his buggy GH-2. But when ever they bring him to Japan (hopefully soon), he will get his hands on a more usable camera. So, I'm fine wiating a couple months for the headaches to be resolved.

+1

I will wait and see for a few months, too.

Guys, do not freak out.
We have almost no footage from final v1.0 cameras that had been shot at high ISO and under controllable conditions.
So, we can't say anything.

Even predproduction GH2 footage that I have for research always looks better than GH1.
Under all conditions.

I must admit, from the look of all the pre gh2 sample video, it certainly seems to hold more detail in the wide angle than my canon and the parries video really represents tha famous panasonic film like quality. Wow.

Don't know if this helps, but here's a very short quick grab I did at 3200 in 24p cinema mode, this is from a Japanese camera v1.0 firmware. My apologies, I just had a few minutes tonight and high ISOs aren't my thing. Highlights to me look good; the shadows, mmm, well I really don't know what shadows at 3200 are supposed to look like. It's the original mts file

No real complains here yet, surprisingly I even like the little kit lens that was basically a bonus.

You need to look at dark parts at high ISO footage.
Now look at noise structure and dynamic.
On GH2 you could see horizontal moving noise bands.

That's exactly I'm trying to do. I don't wanna get panic about not getting GH2 asap. I will take a backseat and wait a bit longer. Eventually I will get GH2. Hopefully at cheaper price. In Japan, the price dropped by 10%. Hopefully m43 lenses become cheaper by the time I get GH2... next year. As panasonic improves GH series, m43 lenses become more useful. I have a good friend who would let me borrow his 5Dii with three L zooms... so I can wait longer. But I prefer GH2 over anything else at this point.

Should us PAL users be thinking the Pentax K-5, now this really has moved the game in DR, look at its score! plus 1080p in mjpeg at 25fps, now this may just be the camera!

Darwinfish has posted an impressive clip from similar fairground but it is intervalometer, built-in on Pentax, wow.

I am big Pentax fan. But.
You must remember that this is DSLR.
With very noticeable moire and no EVF.
Plus no touchscreen.
And HDMI output is 480p that is not too good for focusing using external monitor.

Wow, it looks good though check out the youtube clip of the guy on the boat, weatherproof, dustproof, lcd didnt seem to stop Canon guys? 1080p in mjpeg at 25fps, that is something and look at the DR on dxo its off the chart. this may be the ultimate euro hybrid dslr, plus the Pentax optics?
