GH2 in stock thread

I just picked up a black gh2 + 14/140 kit here locally at the houston camera exchange in houston tx for $1499

They have 3 or 4 more each of the "kits" either with the 14-140 or 14-42. But no "body onlys"

They do ship and mentioned also that they take paypal if need be.
the place has been in business for at least as long as ive lived here (nearly 20 years)
they are the biggest, localy owned, non-big-box, old school camera dealer in town. and as far as i know are authorized dealers of all the big names...

My sales guy is john earles. He said to send him an email with your contact info and he'll get back to you asap.

I saw the post about the company in Jersey which had some in stock on Thursday, but they were gone by the time I got approval at work for the order. I called on Friday morning to see when they expected the next batch, and they weren't able to say for sure when the next batch was due. The guy I spoke with at the store asked if I wanted the 14-140 and I said I did, so he said to hold because there was someone scheduled to pick one up in person and he was pretty sure that he had already, but I waited and he transferred me to someone in another department who told me that they did have one available. They held it until I was able to get approval put through a couple of hours later and it should arrive tomorrow. So, even if a website says sold out, try calling.

There will be greater availability in time for the big holiday season, as that's when traditionally the sales volume takes off - many companies plan around that time for availability precisely because of that. So, realistically, we're looking at early December 2011. And that's what I'm hearing through back channels. Of course, it may seem "what's a few months", but it pi$$es me off, because I was hoping to use a GH2 on a shoot mid-year. I really don't want to wait until December. The irritating thing is that they have to string you along to keep you from jumping to a competitor. I mean, if they told you months ago - we won't have it for close to a year, you'd split immediately, but if they can say "it's just around the corner" and keep saying this, they can really bring you to wait right until December. I don't like that tactic, personally.

First off, let me say that I'm new here. But loving this forum and the valuable threads like this one. I originally won an auction on Ebay for a GH2 Body only. Seller said shipping could be 1 - 2 weeks. A month went by an nothing. Turns out they never had the item, but were selling cams they supposedly had on order with PD. I stupidly counted on having this in time for a shoot that has since come and gone. And ended up using other gear for. Anyway - ended up cancelling with the Ebay seller and still waiting on refund. In the meantime, ordered a GH2 with a kit lens from Kenmore camera last week. They were out of the "body only" option, but I was willing spend the extra $100 for the kit lens if it meant getting the camera this month. This was based on the advice of another poster in this thread. Supposedly got their last one. And should be delivered tomorrow! Bummed about the run-around and long waits and misinformation, but thanks to the great community here, was able to finally get my hands on one of these amazing cams (hopefully tomorrow). Looking forward to using it on a shoot in a couple of weeks. Hope that's enough time to get comfortable with it. As several other posters mentioned, always call the shop whenever possible to confirm that their website is up to date regarding availability. Good luck to all of you still trying / waiting to get this mythical camera. And big thanks to all the awesome members of this forum for all the tips, tricks and valuable info I seem to pick up on almost every day.

I'm so happy I was able to pick up my 14-42 Kit from San Jose Camera. I thought for sure that I would have purchased from B&H. I was on the list for AbelCine but got mine in person first. If it was not for me keeping track of this thread I'm sure I would still be waiting.

Glad to see some cameras trickling in to people's hands; It seems to those waiting on bodies only(esp from PD), your best bet would be to find the 14-42 kit and just pay the extra $100 or so and either try and sell the lens separately or just keep it. Enjoying the 14-140 kit + 20mm 1.7; Next on my list is the Nokton 25mm 0.95(man that's a gorgeous lens).

a shop in san francisco called fireside camera supposedly are getting three in (not sure of which kits they were) this week. two are already preordered and i wished i could put a deposit on the last but i'm really waiting for my tax return, hopefully towards the end of the week. so i advise anyone to try and call them up to see whether it's still available or not.

Today I call panasonic direct to try and founded out why no stacks and why keep waiting for two months for gh2. But sale lady cannot understood my english! Lol! I couldn't Found out why no stacks. Or maybe already stacks like ian said. Anyone found out new informations? Maybe I will order g2 if still no stacks.

I thought I saw someone in this thread say they picked up a kit from Adolf & Gasser's a few weeks back.

http://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com/ has the black gh2 with 14-42mm instock. They had the 14-140 in black but I bought the last one. :-)

Looks like my silver from PD won't be here anytime soon. I called again and they said it won't be for a month or two. Last time I called they said it would ship right away so who knows with PD.

Wow... The panasonic Direct fiasco is still going on? That's amazing. I've had my GH2 almost two months now.... Uniquephoto out of NJ is where I got it.. and they have them popping into stock all the time..

Stay strong people.. The camera is totally worth it... Since I started this thread... I'll give a bit of inspiration... This is a video I shot exclusively with the GH2.. and it was my first real proeject out of the gate... thanks

My wife bought me a GH2 in New Jersey. The only issue is it's silver. Yet I'm thankful when I read your stories about not being able to locate one in stock.

I have only seen the Japanese and Taiwanese sellers on Ebay selling them and who knows if they are covered by the US service department.

The GH2 is worth it. I sold my GH1 early because I knew the GH2 would be few and far between. Its probably true that Panasonic do not want dollars right now and by stalling they can inflate the prices which I'm already seeing.

The silver one that I ordered from Samy's on Saturday arrived today. The battery is charging now.

Yeah, I paid extra for 2-day.

As for the silver color, I like it. It's closer to a gray instead of the light silver you see on a lot of the point and shoots plus the grip is black with some sort of rubberized coating.

I ordered from Arlington Camera in Texas. I don't live in Texas but I go there all the time when I visit my parents who live down the street from them. Very nice people. Got a black GH2 with 14-42 lens for $999. Ordered this morning and an hour later a UPS tracking number was sent to my email.

Was considering ordering from Panasonic Direct but no one there could give me a approximate ship date. They did say credit card will not be charged until it's shipped, so you cancel anytime before that if the wait is too long. IMO, GH2's are out there but they're in local stores, easter egg hunt to find them.

Here's Arlington Camera link. They had 3 kits as of this morning. No body only kits. I'd call first to make sure they're in. Good luck! :)

Now is it gonna be an Ikan dlsr rig or the more expensive Redrock Micro?

...and they're out of stock. Cancelled my B&H pre-order placed two weeks ago after B&H told me I was near the bottom of the wait list. But by the time I tried Arlington, it was too late. Gotta say at this point, Panasonic is really starting to look like a bunch of amateurs. My first camera was the DVX 100, also bought the A model a year later, have always been a fan of the company, but you gotta wonder with this GH2 fiasco, just who is running things over there now? I mean, really, months after release of a product, and it can't be found in stock anywhere?!?!?! Maybe Canon will announce the 5D MK3 next week and I can give up on the GH2...
