GH2 battery $13.99 on Ebay

You might want to read the description "Note:It didn't display the battery life on the screen on the camera." Not a very useful battery if you don't know when it will be out of power, maybe in the middle of a clip?

I think it would still be pretty useful, it depends what you're doing, though. Not so good for anything where you only get one shot, I guess. The price is right.

I just ordered it. Will let you know how it works out. As far as the battery not displaying it's level, I believe that's common to all non-Panasonic batteries.

I ordered one of these too (it looked nicer just based on the markings,) so I'll compare them and try to let you know. I assume the construction of these things is pretty simple, considering how quickly and cheaply they pop up.

I've received both of them in the mail -- they're both fine, but neither of them give charge information. You can buy about five of them for the price of one Panasonic, though, so I think you'd do okay by just swapping them pretty early if you're concerned about losing a shot.

One other caveat though is that knock off batteries also tend to go bad after a short time... They don't hold the charge and then poof they are gone. The regular batteries are pretty reasonably priced for what you are getting, but hey if it works then cool. I just think to save 35 bucks I'd rather not have to worry about it...

Also the difference between a hobbyist and someone who shoots productions. The real batteries are a valid insurance policy to getting the footage a client is paying you to get.

I don't know about these GH2 batteries, but every clone battery I have ever bought has lasted longer than the original "genuine" one and had more mAh. Usually, if you wait a few months, they figure out how to jam more cells into one. In this case, because there is no "bump" to make the battery longer, there may be less room to add more cells. Probably intentional by Panasonic. And one more time, baaaaaad Panasonic for downgrading the GH1 battery for the GH2. All together now, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad Panasonic.

anyone know where to get original GH2 batteries? can't find them anywhere. was on a shoot and had to stop and re-charge the only battery i had.
???

The $14 batteries on Ebay work just fine. They use the adaptor terminals and avoid the battery post. Clever.

Crazy that it's tough to find the batteries at this point....

It isn't. Look on Ebay. It arrived from Hong Kong in 7 days. I'll buy a few more because there are cheap and last just as long as the Panasonic battery.

I found a kink in the cheap batteries. The sleep mode does not work so if you turn the camera on, its on until the battery is dead. The Panasonic battery allows the sleep mode so I can leave the camera on for hours and snap almost right away.

Keep it only for emergencies. In a couple of months you'll find $5 replacements that will have all Panasonic's features. I will never pay $70 for a battery
