GH2 100Mbps Flow Motion v2 Patch - Banding & Blocking Be Gone!

Guys, I´ve just installed this patch and now I have these REC MODE options:
- AVHD (1080i) - tried this one and it worked but it shoots at 29i and I want 1920 x 1080 24p (or 25p if 24 is not possible)
- AVCHD (720p) - it´s shooting at 60p but I want 24p (or 25p if 24 is not possible)
- Motion JPEG - haven´t tried it

What option do I have to select on the Ptool to get this exact same patch but with 1920 x 1080 24p (or 25p) instead of 29i?

I´m sure it´s something easy and I´m sorry for poluting the thread, so MODs feel free to move it if you feel you must.

Changing to PAL has gotten me 1920 x 1080 25 INTERLACED but I´d like to know how to get 24p and 25p.

To select 24H and HBR video modes on the GH2, put the mode dial on Creative Movie Mode, and use the left-right arrow keys to pick the mode. After you tweak all the settings the way you like, you can save your complete setup to one of the three Custom slots on the mode dial.

Is everyone using the Sandisk Extremes? With my Wintec's, I can only go up to ISO 4000. Does anyone have examples of low light video shot above ISO 3200?

I recently invested some time into tweaking GH2 Film Mode/White Balance settings and AF100 Scene File settings to match each other more closely. Unfortunately, the built-in gamma curves available on the AF100 all produce noticeably higher contrast than the GH2 in Smooth Film Mode with Contrast at -2. The AF100 gamma curve with the lowest contrast is CINE-LIKE D, but its highlights are still a bit extreme compared to the GH2's. To my eyes, this gives the AF100's highlights a telltale videocam edge reminiscent of the HVX200.

Initially, I went with the general consensus on the dvxuser AF100 forums, and set the AF100's Detail Level to -4. That's actually considered fairly sharp by most AF100 afficionados:

http://blog.abelcine.com/2011/04/06/af100-scene-files-created-by-abelcine/

The results I saw from that approach, however, were disappointingly soft compared to the GH2 using Flow Motion v2. I eventually boosted Detail Level up to -2 and found that the key to matching the GH2 was to set the AF100's Master Pedestal down at -9. This also crushes most of the low-level sensor noise from the CINE-LIKE D gamma curve, and allowed me to reduce Detail Coring to the minimum at -7. To my eyes, this produces a major improvement in image quality, making AF100 footage look much more like the GH2:

Sorry about the discrepancy in framing, it's due to the AF100's slightly different crop factor and the height of its lens mount. Here are the settings I used on the GH2 and AF100, which I think produce a more pleasing daylight color balance than the defaults on both cameras:

GH2 Daylight Settings
Film Mode Smooth
Contrast -2
Sharpness -2
Saturation -1
Noise Reduce -2
WB Daylight
A-3
M-2

AF100 Daylight Scene File
Gamma CINE-LIKE D
Matrix NORM2
Detail Level -2
V Detail Level -2
Detail Coring -7
Chroma Level -1
Chroma Phase 0
Master Ped -9
DRS OFF
Skin tone DTL OFF

I'm going to be buying the Gh2 real soon and want to know what is the difference between flow motion hack and driftwood? Also I need to shoot slo motion since most of my work is Music videos, which would be the best option? On my Canon dslr I usually shot 720 60fps and conformed to 24p for smooth slow mo. What would be the best way for Gh2?

thanks a lot

@vision_filmz I can't really speak for driftwood's hacks, as at this point, there are well over a dozen different variants to choose among. With Flow Motion, my goal was to craft a single, unified rapid-motion patch that reliably supports the widest practical range of GH2 video modes and features. No less important was the need to forge the GH2 into a failsafe tool suitable for use in a professional production environment. While it's far from perfect, the remarkable motion picture quality the GH2 produces has made it well worth the effort.

Hello lPowell!
Actually I bought a GH2. Still I don´t have it in my hands but I want to be sure I´ll be ready with the patch and everything with I got it here. As I owner of a GH13 with your 75Mbps Patch, that goes just perfect with it, now I wanna put your Flowmotion v2 in my GH2. Because still I don´t have it, there is a think I don´t get. Being from Pal land how can I shoot true 25p progresive footage? If I understand is HBR, but is it a switch in the camera? Because I don´t see it in Ptool.
If I decide to shoot 25p progresive in both cameras should I choose Blackout Powell GH1 and flowmotion2 HBR GH2?
Thanks for help us shooting each day lPowell!

After you update your camera with the hacked firmware, you can switch back and forth between NTSC and PAL frame rates at any time. The main restriction is that once you record a PAL video on an SD card, that card will only accept PAL videos, and vice versa (until you reformat it).

To switch between PAL and NTSC, use the VIDEO OUT option in the SETUP menu while in Creative Movie Mode. After you do so, turn the camera off and on again, and reformat the SD card. You should then be able to record a test video. Once you have the camera set up the way you want it, you can save your settings in one of the three Custom slots. That way, you'll be able to switch into PAL or NTSC mode without needing to go through the menu system.

@lpowell

First of all thank you for all of your hard work, I have a question though. Do you have a website where you further explain what you've done with the hack? Secondly I as well will be getting My GH2 very soon and wanted to know do I need special memory cards for the hack?

Thanks lPowell, looking forward to GH1 GH2 combo. Besides I got a 171 to got as main camera and I will try to match the 3. I will put your 100Mbps Max Latitud Patch in GH1 shooting in two Sandisk Extremepro16GB both class 10, one 30MB/s and one 45MB/s . In GH2 100Mbps Flow Motion v2, and I will buy 32G Sandisk class 10 95MB/s. Do you think it is a good start point to got my both GH´s working similar? Of course 25p PAL 1920x1080 and 720 50p as well.

Detailed evaluations of Flow Motion v2 comparison footage are available here:

Flow Motion v2 has been tested to work with standard Class 10 SD cards rated at 30MB/sec and faster, with in-camera playback supported in all video modes except MJPEG HD mode. 95MB/sec SD cards support 4GB file-spanning in all video modes except NTSC HBR and FSH modes. Slower Class 10 SD cards support file-spanning in Flow Motion's 60Mbps 24L, FH, and H video modes.

@lpowell

I have a couple of Sandisk Extremepro 32GB rated at 45MB/s that according to your tests would work, thanks for the help! Coming from a Dvx and Canon which record less detail I think even the 60Mbps Hack would be a great improvement.

Before applying the patch, I'm guessing that it's ok to remove the option for all languages and the audio tweaks?

Also, I plan on shooting pretty much everything in AVCHD mode, but for the sake of wanting all features working normal... if I want to keep MJPEG mode in camera playback is there anything you suggest?

In Flow Motion v2, the following patch settings are optional and can be unchecked without affecting the AVCHD settings:

* All Interface Languages
* 30min limit removal
* Maximum ISO limit removal
* PAL<->NTSC Menu
* MJPEG settings (make sure all are unchecked)
* Audio settings (make sure all are unchecked)

After altering the settings to your preference, you should save your custom patch to one of PTool's A-J buttons. This is done by holding down the Shift key while clicking on one of the A-J buttons. To avoid confusion, I'd recommend saving your custom patch to a different button, and revising the information text in the first field of the dialog window.

Here are Film Mode and White Balance settings I recently developed to match the GH1 to GH2 footage. These are daylight settings designed to remove the greenish cast of both the GH1 and GH2 in AVCHD video modes. More details on these comparison tests here:

**Update**

I believe I got it to work, but how am I sure? How do I know that I have the Hack installed on my camera?

thanks
