GH1, GH2 EVF Eyecup

look , there´s nothing wrong with rigs concept except it interferes with the lcd- you need an extruded aluminum angle about 4 cms on each side and about 1.5 mm thick - then cut on one side where it fits inside the hotshoe ...about 17mm wide - on that part, you´ll need to insulate it from the contacts , I´d use a piece of glued mylar- that´s thin and slick so allows for the piece to slide into the hotshoe- add pieces until it fits snug--then on the other leg of the aluminum angle, cut it approx. 3.5 cm- that should allow the lcd to swing open- if not , file it until it does - then go to ebay-cameras and photography section and search for eyecups- there´s over 30 pages , many filmstyle eyecups selling for less than $5 US- I´d personally get one with metal mounting brackets- they run alittle more ...$10 - then when it arrives cut a hole in that leg of the aluminum angle and glue the bracket with epoxy to the aluminum following standard epoxy gluing recommendations - middle school shop project

Thanks for the Slam!
I am not a manufacturer. I am a Producer/Director who has made up and uses these on a daily basis and thought I might have the time to offer them for others. I originally planned to have these made up at the beginning of the year but one of my suppliers messed up the order and sent me some crappy rubber eye cups. That took a month to solve and cost me some large bucks. I have since found some that would be up to par and I have the brackets ready to be made up. I just don’t have the time right now to see it through.

Don't sweat it. Hope the gig is going well.

For any manufacturer, this is a small potential market. Rigs put his idea out there, with pictures.
What a great guy. This isn't his gig. Life intervenes. He's working. Props to him.
Anyone can make this at home, if they a have some small modicum of manufacturing talent.
I tried and failed. Okay, I didn't try that hard. I tried the metal to eyecup route but
it just seemed a bit cumbersome. Very small manufacturing talent here.
I then cut a hole in an eyecup and directly
stretched it over the GHx eyecup. It worked great for about a week, and then
got too loose. But it made me realize that this could all be done with a proper
size hole in an eyecup and the proper stretchiness in the rubber around the
GHx eyecup. Must be dead simple to manufacture but the market will no
doubt be small. Labor of love. Yes, that's it. Please someone do an elastic,
direct fit, rubber eyecup, for the GHx, as a labor of love. And there might
just be a few bob in it as well. Maybe more than you might otherwise
expect given the years that people have been crying out for this solution
but haven't got it just yet. It has been years. Do a search.
Oh, and send me one free, just to test out. Remember, direct fit,
all rubber, proper stretchiness, easy to pull off, and put on, and durable.
Thanks in advance,
and all hail Vitaly for the colossal manufacturing talent that has made
us all so interested in a minuscule but otherwise very important eyecup.

I think the original EVF rubber eye piece could become loose if an external snug fit slip over one was to be placed over top of it. There is not much room for the LCD screen to be pull out. Which would mean having to remove the slip over type cup everytime you needed to open or close the screen. Plus the added strain it that could be put on it just when packing it in a case or bag. My design slips in the hotshoe and is held in by it. It sits comfortabally inside the existing rubber frame and can be removed very easy for LCD screen acess, or you can flip up the bottom of the rubber cup as well.

I have been using 3 of my EVF cups for about 8 month now and they hold up well as have my GH1/2.

Wish I had more time right now.

Back too you latter
rigs

Ironically, sometimes I use the rubber eye cup from my Cineroid EVF. This is of course when I need to use ETC/zoom mode as it doesn't function while HDMI is plugged in. Fits well and securely!

ed DIY looks... ok i guess.. i don't like the spaces left in between.. can be bothering.
and stonebat's is a better fix.

BUT isn't there another option besides getting involved with rubber bands? :(
there MUST be ONE rubber eye cup out there that can somehow be fixed nicely on the EVF base..
question is how to find it? a needle in a haystack

Has anyone tried one of these? Good reviews, and I've had one on my wish list at B&H for months, but I'm reluctant to spend the $40 without knowing whether it will work.

roei z , ask stonebat which eyecup he bought , and then glue it to the removable eyecup of the camera ! How simple ? Or use black rubber bands . You won´t find one that´s made to fit . Incredible, but true. Stonebat´s solution is at least as elegant as rigs , and alot cheaper !

i'll try, thanks.
in the meantime i'm shooting (and directing!!) a whole feature with no eye cap.
but surprisingly i somehow manage to deal with it (sunlight is a bit tricky but not impossible).
i was very happy to find out all the shots were pretty well focused.

Hi friends, here you can see my solution for an eyecup. In Germany it is called "glockendichtung", costs 2€, but i dont know the english translation for this. It's a bathroom item.
