GH1, GH2 EVF Eyecup

rigs

Would anybody be interested in a custom EVF Eyecup for a GH1 and GH2. It consists of a rubberized aluminium base plate with a large rubber eyecup, which fits perfectly into the existing EVF and is mounted by sliding it in to the cameras hotshoe bracket. There is also an option to add a coldshoe to top of the base plate as well.

I have made a few of these up for our production rigs and they work and hold up very well. They make it allot easier to see the EVF without letting any light in, and it is much more comfortable than the standard EVF rubber frame.

Right now I'm checking if there is any interest, before I hand it over to someone to produce in small quantities.

What kind of price do you think something like this would fetch.

I don't like the idea of it taking the hot shoe...should at least have a cold shoe on top of the mount so you can still use stuff.

It can have a coldshoe on the top of the bracket. What would the hotshoe be used for besides an external flash? I believe all microphones and lights have no connections via hotshoe.

I just don't like the idea of it...seems bulky and I couldn't use it for stills shooting cause it might block built in flash and certainly will block external. I think something that fits snuggly over the main viewfinder is the best solution, but if this looks good and the price is right I'd def consider it...once you have a prototype maybe start a kickstarter page?

Thanks for your advice Ben, This EVF Eyecup is small and does not interfere with the built in flash. It sits right into the EVF and mounts using the hotshoe bracket. the existing frame of the EVF is soft rubber and will not support with any kind of strength. I will post some pics ASAP.

That is nice mimirsan.
Can you recommend any eyecup ? I gues you adapted an eyecup from another camera/model ?

Thanks I bought this cheap set

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eyecup-Eye-Cu...raphy_DigitalCamAccess_RL&hash=item2a04b26f8b

comes with a variety of slider attachments and a eyecup...I chose a nikon cut it to size (so that it does not cover sensor)...dismantled the rubber (2 small screws unde evf) and took the hard plastic cover on the evf...attached the slider to the hard plastic cover (with strong epoxy and then enameled) once dry reaassebmled as normal.
Go in settings and set "use evf when lcd is closed".

One smart enough could actually replicate the plastic cover on the evf so rather than attaching it to the original (thus destroying warrenty) you could just swap with the self made modified one )keep the original in a safe place)...if you need to send camera back you can swap back.

Its very easy to take the evf apart to modify/ replace...just 2 screws.

I understand the need for bigger evfs/lcd loop for some folks....I think panasonic missed a trick by not adding a slider on the evf...then sell a nice eyecup seperately ;-)

Something that fits over the main viewfinder is the best solution, but if the price is right I'd consider it.
