the 720p24 mode you've added is very interesting, what I mean is that 17mbps divided by 24 frames will give a quality like 1080p24 at 35mbps, no need to hack the bitrate if it works.

Just trying to get the 720p24 but I downloaded GH1__121.bin from panasonic web and ptool just minutes ago and I got "Access violation" executing it (windows XP), I tried in 2 computers. I doesn't even create an empty file.
 
to change to 720p24, is it only needed to change 1 byte?

ROM40568B10 mov 0x3C, D1

changed to:

ROM40568B10 mov 0x18, D1


if its correct will try it directly

Access violation was because you did not extracted firmware to same directory.
I changed ptool to v1.26 to add error handling.
Current version now reports that it can't find proper file.

Don't do it and remove addresses from your post, as someone without head can do something.
Use provided bat files and test only if camera recognizes your new binary files and allows you to update.
It is not good to do something stupid.
 
Since I have not seen the inside of a body, does the unit have a JTAG/UART port or any other form of programming port that might make it easier to try things without needing to do the "firmware update" stuff?

Maybe we could also monitor that port too?

it was in the same dir, but anyway the new version worked, used make_fps.bat the patching process was ok, patched 50-60 -> 24..


But when updating to GH1__123.bin , the progress bar reach about 20% and then shows a message " turn the camera off and on again" , the firmware version 1.0 remains unchanged, tryed several times.


BTW the batt must be full or the NO VALID IMAGE msg will appear.

Next time, post photos of whole process, including progress bar and resulting message.
Timing is also interesting.

trust me, i'm game if there's something definate in it for me, but i don't know why you are so interested in doing this for a camera you don't have...please enlighten me.

It is simple.
Initially it started as small patch for TZ5 to change very bad 8000KHz/8bit sound encoding in HD movies my family use (not for films, of course :-) )
After I realized that GH1 is very good capable camera with few clearly seen flaws and firmware format was almost the same, processor commands are the same. So , GH1 project started.
