GH1 availability around the world thread

Yeah, I would expect the GH-1 to be harder to get at the price it costs, but it won't be that bad.

In light of this CNET review might be a blessing in disguise. I've heard from a number of people already "This thing is SOOOO OVERPRICED". I chuckle quietly.

Stock is even running out in Japan.

I tried ordering from an online shop there, and got conflicting answers. My friend in Japan was able to place an order and got a delivery date of 'Friday'. I emailed the same store earlier and my reply came through the next day saying it was unavailable due to stock shortages from Panasonic, and that they had confirmed this by calling Panasonic Japan.

I'll be in Japan next week, anybody knows if it is possible to buy a GH1 in japan with english menu?
I don't care much for the price, I guess it would be cheaper then in europe anyway.

I just called an italian reseller and he told me it will arrive in 10 days (cool just 3 days after the day I needed!)

Will the Europan model provide 25P and can't the american version do that? It looks as if the price difference is huge.

availability in germany

availability in germany

i just called an electronics store (saturn) here in germany and they told me that they are actually waiting 2 two weeks now for that camera and that it should've arrived today. but it didn't, so they couldn't tell me for sure that it'll be in stores on monday.

they said i shall call them on monday to check if it has arrived.

have fun suffering from the sunday!

LOL...I just call that a case of mistaken identity.

I think the real reason for it is that the double lens kit for the G1 is around $600 and comes with the 14-45 and the 45-200mm.

I think there has been a resurgence of interest with the µ4/3rds system with the GH1, but many average consumers compare the specs, and see that the G1 is the same body and has the same megapixel resolution as the G1, but he G1 costs $600 and the GH1 kit with the 14-200mm in Japan costs $1200.

For the average consumer, they look at the two devices and think they are paying twice the price just for video. I think many are thinking its not worth the extra money for video. Little do they know...

In Japan? A lot of places in the US are selling just the one lens kit with the G1 for $800. The cheapest I've found is about $650 for the G1 with just the 14-45. If you know a place where I can get the double lens kit with the G1 for $600, I'm all ears

Im really hoping we see this camera in the next 2 weeks...
I just pre-ordered one from Panasonic with an NBC corporate discount at $1200.
Panasonics pretty good about corporate discounts, so you might want to see if its
an option for you. That $300 is going towards some Genus rails & matte box...

How'd you hook that up? Did you order it through your people at NBC or did you do it yourself directly?

Thanks

Well I work for CNBC, so I have access to the NBC Universal Intranet homepage.
From there I can go into the Corporate Discounts Section, set up an account with
Panasonic, and order whatever I want at a nice discount.

If you work for a Network/Company in the industry, or a company that spends
a good amount of $$$ on consumer & professional electronics, you should see
if they have an agreement with Panasonic.

may have overlooked this, but does panasonic charge your credit card immediately or not until it ships? sorry if this was already answered
