Great concept. The "old west" footage outside is terrific in its cinematography. When you go inside for the show pitch portion, I felt that the image made too much of a jump to "videoish." I think this was probably intentional given the concept of the spot, but it took me out of the fanasy world you created.

Wow, I had a hard time finding this thread, at first ... glad I dug a little inside to know this was the "Wild, Wild, West" one. :thumbsup:
John, this is the first I've seen, as I'm going in alphabetical/download order.
NICE production value on the exterior shots, and it was fun seeing Tom in there ... and then to see his credit at the end, lol! "Norm" ... now, is there a similarity in his performance I should be looking for, or was it just the default character name that gets used so much in movies for the crazy guy (Psycho), or the cow (City Slickers), etc.? :grin:
Anyway, nice job, and loved the VFX and music to boot (great work, Herman).
EDIT: I just realized I wasn't juding this as a commercial: i.e. does it make me want to buy, support, consume the product or advertisement? While I think this would be a humerous attempt for a TV channel to grab people's attention and say "Look, we're different, watch our stuff", it just didn't appeal to me to make me really want to WATCH that specific channel. So while it was entertaining, it didn't grab at any of my consumer vices, so to speak.

I'll start with the biggest disappointment about your entry, Cinemalma.
Immediately after viewing the commercial, I went to www.kineticatv.com. I did not find footage of babies fighting robots.

I loved the opening shot to this one. You chose some actors with interesting faces, and I'm a sucker for detailed close-ups on them. The whole beginning sequence with the two characters facing off was well-shot and edited.
The ending section reminded me very strongly of a traditional 50's sci-fi motif, and I'm a fan of that kinda thing. I especially liked the girly screams you placed over the cowboys during the obligatory "monster-vision" shots! Nice
My only "complaint" is that I had no idea what the product was on first viewing. It's because I unintentionally ignored the caption for "Kinetica Television" in favor of watching the much more interesting performances that were going on! (There's also a bit where they're white text on a light background and tricky to read).

First, I am truly sorry I couldn't work with you on this as we'd planned... secondly, you did a pretty good job without me
I guess my only complaint is that the production value of the guy pitching his idea was close but didn't match the stuff in the desert. I think if the footage in the desert would have looked just a tad better (better is totally subjective I know, but I guess even just a little more contrasty) and the pitch stuff looked a little worse, it would have worked better for me.
It's also hard for me to judge since I saw the script from the very beginning.
But overall, funny concept, and some great shots and editing.
Oh, and the VFX turned out fantastic!! :thumbsup:

Thanks. I agree. I think with a better lighting setup and mic, the meeting room scene would have come out better. I don't know if "videoish" is a problem in the television world, but I know what you're saying.
And, oh yes, giant robots are super poo pooing cool!

Thanks, Norm! Glad you liked it. I agree with your points. There was a VO piece at the end, as well as another tagline, "Light years away from ordinary!", but overlayed with the robot and the VFX and the SFX and cowboys and the text... whew! It was like sensory overload! I wasn't sure if the product/service came out, so I guess I know what you are saying about the "selling the product" thing.
BTW - I just figured Norm was a good name for a guy who was a "Customer Service Tech II". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Next time, I'll make Norm a Fortune 500 CEO, or a Professional Athlete, or the guy who gets the girl in the end. Deal? :thumbsup:Thanks again for watching!
Thanks! It seems that the actual product/service got a little lost in the "filmmaking".
I've seen a fair share of commercials where I thought they were cool but cannot, for the life of me, remember what the hell they were selling. I guess I made one of those. The girly screams were the last things I mixed in. My actors are going to hate it, but I love it! :evil:

That's a great idea about the "film" stuff versus the meeting scene. I didn't use any CC on the desert stuff. That's straight off the camera. I tried to work a little with meeting room (flourescent light hell!), and I was able to warm it up a bit, but I know it could look better (or worse, but "good" worse).
VFX was my first real try at something like that. "That absolutely looks like shi*" came out of mouth about every other render.

I actually had a problem with the jitters when showing it to somebody on my laptop. Not sure why. Same file on a different computer plays fine. Sorry you didn't get a chance to watch a good copy of it.
