GH5 Game Over, Panasonic

The chances of Panasonic implementing either BRAW, ProRes RAW or some variation of their own internally in a hybrid is pretty slim. The chances of them doing it in a firmware upgrade to an existing camera is even slimmer. Best hope would be to send RAW over HDMI to an external recorder, but that would be non-standard, and Panasonic really likes to keep to consumer standards.

In case you haven't noticed, this sub forum is titled Panasonic GH Cameras. So the constant hyper ventilating about a camera from another manufacturer that has only recently been released, and which doesn't yet have a feature that has so many jumping up and down with uncontrolled excitement, is sucking all the oxygen out of this otherwise enjoyable forum.

That's how......

BRAW is going to take you from bedroom dslr youtube poster to Roger Deakins in one step. So totally game over for Panasonic, Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji and Roger Deakins!

Image quality is not a substitute for talent. If you do not have creative talent then nothing will improve your projects. Anything in the hands of a talented person will be better than the best technology in the hands of those that lack talent.

I am pretty sure he was being sarcastic brother.

Exactly that how.

You're kidding?! This is a concept I've never heard...except for the other 10 million times it's been mentioned in every film/video production forum on the planet.

This thread is NOT about talent, or content, the abundance or lack thereof. It's about getting the best possible technical quality for your content at the best price. That's it. That's the only subject under discussion.

And on that front, I maintain the original sentiment. Game over, Panasonic.

I've got just the solution for you: Don't read this thread.
For those that shoot the GH-series and are interested in adding the P4K: Carry on.

I have not 'heard' whether the BMPCC 4K has a fan on it. Does it? If so, how noisy is it? I've had to record sound while being in a hallway with an Atomos Shogun - not a good thing. I'm an anti-fan boy!

May I ask how you normally use this best technical quality in your professional life, and how you managed to get by before the upcoming release of the BMDCP4K?...as you initiated this thread I'm very curious about this, and possibly not the only one.

it does have a fan, and interestingly it pushes air against the normal bottom > up convection direction. No early tester has mentioned the noise, which hopefully is a good sign, but we really won't know until more people have actual production units in their hands.

The BMPCC 4K fan could be a deal breaker for narrative work. I know REDs are notorious for fan noise. I'm glad I've never had to record sound for close-ups when a RED was used.

Filmed a narrative short outdoors in 90+ F with a GH5 a few weeks ago, no problem with camera noise. Even used a PIX-E5 with it. At least the PIX-E shuts the fan off when recording.

The p4K has a fan.

Strangely to me, it vent's top to bottom. I found my hand got a little warm holding it as a hand held camera. Not uncomfortable, but I couldn't work out why initially.

It's just as (not very) loud as it is on other BMD cameras.

It's comparable is what I'm saying, to other Blackmagic camera fans. They are constant and don't cycle up or down. (Solid state cooling)

I use the Ursa Mini Pro all the time at very close quarters in narrative drama and no-one complains about fan noise.

It's no way as bad as RED camera fans can be.
