FS-100 Import

I just recieved my HVX and have been playing around with it for the past few hours. Unfortunately none of the P2 cards have arrived though my FS-100 did.
I ordered a turnkey system with FCP from B & H but it hasn't arrived yet so I've been trying to download the files onto i-movie HD on my laptop. Unfortunately it keeps telling me that there is an error.
Any ideas?

If you're shooting HD, which I assume you are - With the FS100 you'll either be recording MXF files or QT DVCProHD files

Unless you have FCP installed on your laptop, you won't be able to do much of anything.
FCP includes the DVCProHD codecs which you need - so once you install FCP, you'll be able to import the footage into iMovie :)

Your other option, if you're just playing around - is to shoot DV on the FS100, you should be able to import that just fine.

I know, not as fun - but its something.

Thanks

Thanks

With the Simpsons movie out I can't help but hear Homer saying "But I want to shoot in HD now".
I don't understand why they call it i-movie HD if it won't take the HD. C'est la vie. My FCP will be here soon enough.

Luis,

I just got my FS-100 and took it to Heart Castle and Big Sur with my new HVX200. But I can't get FCP (5) to import the P2 clips. I get "Selected path does not contain a P2 volume". The .mxf files are truly there: for each clip, I see the A,B,R, L and w files so that seems to prove the FS-100 captured in DVCPROHD. Any suggestions?

In the future, I guess I should set it to capture Quicktime or Quicktime PN (not sure what the PN is) in order to avoid this problem but I thought FCP could read .mxf.

This should probably be a new thread - but did you run the 'Organize P2' function on the firestore?
The FS-100 has to organize the MXF files into the P2 directory structure before FCP will recognize it as a P2 volume.
Disconnect your FS-100, then go to the (I THINK) Utilities menu, and select 'Organize P2'
Then try it again.

FCP cannot read MXF files - you import them using the "Log and Transfer" fuction (or "P2 Import" on FCP5) and it then rewraps the files at QT files which FCP can understand. You might also look at 'Raylight' from DVFILM as an option if you're interested in editing MXF files in FCP.

The PN mode records Native framerates - removing the duplicate frames with the HVX includes in the signal when shooting 720P in anything other than 60fps. You can do the same on P2 cards - shooting PN mode on your firestore will take you from 111 minutes of capacity to around 264 minutes (something like that).

Of course its almost a moot point as the standard battery for the FS100 only lasts about 90 minutes.

Not sure if Focus Enhancements has recently upgraded what they include with the FS-100 but mine came with the 180 minute battery, a right-angle Firewire cable and a plastic belt clip enclosure with a screw mount on the back.

where did you buy from?

I found a bunch of FE stuff on that site's catalogue, but no FS-100. Was it a special order? Sorry for hijacking the thread... I'm just trying to find a good package for the fs100

Monmouth County, New Jersey haha. Guess I should start looking again eh?
