C300: FREE Pre-Order List for Canon EOS C300 mkII

@DLD
- For the client who thinks the FS7 is overpriced, my C300 mk1 will work for those jobs.
- I was speaking of NFL Network not NFL films. Their online department out of LA has two F55 and their TV features department hires freelancers with cameras that they approve.
- 8k, sure aqquiring isn't the problem. Broadcasting is. In Japan they'll be fine, but in the USA we'll be getting HD or 4k broadcast if it's ready by then.
- Sony does not make the sensor for the Canon 5D. They do make sensors for Nikon though...
From what I had read on the various sites, they manufacture it but to Canon's design (Canon is essentially is leasing the production line and is controlling the patents on the chip).

Sony also makes a 50 MPX MF big'un for Pentax 645Z and Hasselblatt cameras and are rumored to make an FF 50 MPX version for Pentax's projected FF camera that may be announced later in the year. The rumors of Sony's own 50 MPX camera for a potential A7R MK II have also been around for ages (other rumors have them with the same unit as D810 - a FF 36 MPX)

They also make some Olympus sensors (and own a piece of the company) and, obviously, have a huge market share in the smartphone sensor market.

PS. I was using the NFL Films as a separate entity, since they were/are run by the Sabol descendants.

I don't believe speculations in rumour sites. While announcing the Canon 5DS, Canon Canon had said that they had tweaked the existing 5D. I can't check with Canon officials about speculations.

Here is the 4K version of the C300 Mark II promo film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFAEEY4hxzM

Really curious to see this film on their HDR display. It just looks so so bad! Surely they didn't blow the highlights in every shot! Though, in my experience almost everyone overexposes Canon Log.

Here's what I remember from a Q&A session after the 5Ds/r announcement.

A reporter/site (it may have been a DP Review) asked if Sony makes the 5Ds/r sensor. Canon's reply was, "No, it's our own sensor".

In other words, it wasn't a denial of Sony manufacturing it.

And this makes sense, as ARRI called the Alexa sensor "their own", though they obviously did not own the production line, or BMD calling the new 4.6K sensor "their own" despite subcontracting the production from Fairchild. This is how the game is played and the only problem I have with it is that the Japanese photo-video conglomerates - Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax/Ricoh, JVC - have an obvious cartel and this isn't disclosed to their American customers. Theoretically, the DOJ should probe the anti-trust violations but this has not happened so far (the Japanese TV manufacturers were once sued on the anti-trust grounds by the US TV makers but won it ... soon afterward, the US based TV manufacturers vanished)

I have no direct knowledge of this specific video. I found this discussion in sister site reduser saying that the highlight details were deliberately blown in post for the look http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?130384-Canon-C300-mk-ii&p=1513804&viewfull=1#post1513804

This stylised film has unnecessarily created more doubts in the minds of people.

I don't know why any camera launch video would choose a stylized look rather than show what the sensor can do. Seems just silly.

I'm sure the C300II will be a solid performer no doubt. The lineage almost guarantees it. Its not the right camera for my business but it will be for a lot o f users.

I have a feeling the C300I will eat into C300II sales. Unless you need 4K capture the C300I still offers what most broadcast/reality needs without having to upgrade storage and post pipeline which is huge to larger companies. C300II will be a great owner op cam as it covers so many roles from Doc/narrative/commercial etc like the FS7 does. I still deliver in HD but have to say I enjoy shooting interviews in 4K for the ability to crop to accentuate the tone/mood. It allows me to set up my 2nd cam with a more 'artsy' angle to add to it. The more tools in the tool box the better.

IMO, some of their shots look a lot better than others and, in selecting the right camera, a buyer should think of the camera technical capabilities rather than of an original shooter's technical limitations. To me, this short looks like a combo of shots - a California dessert here and a smoky (but without the smoke, naturally) bar there - rather than an attempt for a coherent look for the entire production.

We're getting near launch time. Please remember that you can join our $0 down, risk-free, pre-order list on our webstore here.

Since we started taking orders i've had a chance to play with the camera several times. It feels as good to use as you would hope. I found that every time i started scrolling through the menu i stumbled across a new feature/adjustment/customization that impressed me.

Please consider pre-ordering a camera from a small, independant dealer off of Canon's authorized dealer list

Often small dealers have a much better wait list to delivered cameras ratio then the big box stores do when a hot product is released.

Does anyone know if you can change the ISO, shutter speed, etc., from just the joy stick like you can with the C100 but can't with the C300 Mark I?

Mind you, Sony already manufactures the Full Frame (which is what Weapon is) 50 MPX sensor for Canon 5Ds/r line.

That's incorrect.

5Ds sensor is completely designed and manufactured by Canon, in Canon facilities, with zero relation to Sony semi-conductors.

The only Canon camera ever to implement a Sony semi-conductors chip is 1'' 20.2 megapixel chip inside the g7x and g3x.

Just stoking the fire here but is anyone else wondering where all the c300 mk ii footage is? Surely there has to be SOME cameras that made it into the capable hands of filmmakers that could better demonstrate its dynamic range/features than the launch film did.

This isn't exactly breaking news, but i did just get an email from a Canon tech rep confirming that, at this point, these are the only cards that have been tested with the C300mkII.

Daniel Chung reported the Lexar CFast 2.0 cards worked fine while the Wyse CFast 2.0 cards he had did not work.

http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/08/05/ongoing-c300-mkii-review-part-ii-ergonomics-and-hardware/

128 GB gets only 40 minutes of recording in 4k, which isn't enough time for my applications. I'm planning to start with two 256GB Lexar CFast 2.0 cards, and probably get two more before long. That will give me 2 hr 40 minutes in 4k, or 1 hr 20 minutes if using dual record. SandDisk doesn't offer 256 GB cards now. The Lexars better work well. 40 minutes just isn't that long; it won't even get me through a full interview in many cases.

Well, technically the C100 is already 4k, down-sampled to 1080, which, when filming with the C300 Mark II at 4k, and then either a), delivering at 1080, or b), delivering at 4K and then viewed by most consumers online on a 1080 screen, means that the sharpness levels shouldn't be much different than the C100. Thus going back to the trope, the real advantages of 4K are for cropping in post, which can be useful for interviews scenarios, particularly when the interviewee is looking strait into the camera such as when using a teleprompter.

Right now I'm using two C100s on top of each other to get a medium and tight for those cases, but it can be kind of a pain and sometimes the eye-line into the cameras doesn't look perfect.

With that said, makeup is something I need to learn in general, regardless of resolution. And I do use Magic Bullet Cosmo to soften up skin when needed with the C100; works quite well, I think.
