Forget mjpeg, for now!

Has anyone verified/compared 4:2:2 vs. 4:2:0 besides header info?

The "4:2:2" sample clip I looked at has quite blocky reds in AE, but it may be a MJPG in MOV container issue and decoder interpretation issue

Well, it's premature, however I noticed that the 4:2:2 on some red light was blocky. So I went back to some 720P footage I shot a week ago, checked some rear car lights and they were fine and this was from pre 4:2:2. More research needed.

I went back and tried these 60, 62, 70 settings again, this time with 24pN not selected. It worked and played back in camera too, although the screen flashes black once in a while when not recording. I'll keep an eye on that.

I haven't compared it to the C settings I've been using, but it works with my 4GB Sandisk Extreme II Class 6 cards and looks fantastic. Clearly there's an issue with the 24pN, which already had me a little concerned with the 23.971fps problem.

Seriously, there is no way mjpeg is now comparing with AVC for many reasons;

30p, hmm, do you want 30p!
massive file size, do you want massive file size
1080p is pushing the bit rate envelope, plus invokes huge overhead
720p, no we want 1080p.

Personally, everything I see in mjpeg am now seeing in AVC, in a much much friendlier format.

Try these, 60, 62, 70, am staying with 50i for now too, better RS imo.

The detail is incredible.

What GOP setting? I'll give these a try..

These settings worked on my GH1 (class 10 Sandisk extreme 30MB/s) in low light with the panny 20mm lens. (Bitrate was not so high though)

However, the GH1 stopped recording almost immediately when recording outside (sunny day) with the 14-140 stock lens shooting wide.

What card were you using?
