Finally saw GH2 footage first hand.. I am not upgrading. Staying with GH1.3

I also for one wouldn't ever want a camera that's 100 percent reliable.... and that's the case with the hack. People have reported issues and that's just acceptable for professional work... it's so gimecky and certainly leads one to speculate. If you do have a 100 percent reliable camera than that's awesome, but for so many others that's the not the case.... We'll all see what ends up..

Personally I"M opting for a proper video camera as well... the AF100 will a new workhorse and certainly eliminate a bit of the kitchen sink that is required to work with a DSLR. The Gh2 though will be a decent B camera, crash cam, low-key option...

Have you even SHOT with a hacked GH1? if not, then how can you say things about it?

NOTHING is 100% reliable. You think your GH2 is made out of titanium and suddenly it puts a magical spell on all SD cards inserted into it?

you want 100% reliable... get paper and sketch your actors out by hand then film the flip book.

Hey, guys, these are only cameras. Go out and shoot with whatever you can afford and let the images do the talking ;)

Stone - I don't know and have no way of knowing if it was pre production or not, as I have stated that several times... it's possible. The menus were in English not Japanese or Gremlinese. I really have NOTHING against the darned GH2 I am just saying what I saw.... and that seems to get people who jump gun pre-purchased up in arms.

When it comes officially you can be 100% positive we'll all re-review it.

He's got a point. I have seen some bad mud on some of the GH2 clips out there!

Indeed
still havent seen ANY footage without some kind of artifacting even in "blooms"...GH2s footage looks sharp yes (a little too camcorder like in my opinion) and of course I understand those want no banding in lowlight...but all decent shots are either locked down or held very still.
I still reserve judgement for now....till I see some more "active" footage with no muddage...Im not going for GH2.

Same here...

Sounds like a very testy admission here. In actuality my HVX was 100 percent reliable. 2400 hours on that and 500 on HMC. Never a glitch, bad card or whatever to this end. So nope, I haven't done such a thing but I know of a friend who did and was left with some unpleasant results.. as I am sure you have been, right?

We'll see how the production model comes off but there's a penchant to make rash judgements well before things are settled. Just as there were with the HVX and the noise issue, which was resolved with some camera setttings... Of course now by comparisson that's a very noisy camera. On a recent shoot the client didn't think he could use my HMC cause it was too clean. he was thinking he'd had to add some noise to make it match his original HVX...

All in all you'll get these reactions as people are a bit blind to the GH2... as it's not out. I for one had a chance to use the original unhacked GH1 and didn't really like the results.. as now I"m not pleased with the 7D. Of course i would like to own an Alexa but I"m going to have to settle for renting that for bigger jobs and owning a couple of more reasonablely priced cameras... Just as long as the wife doesn't even know how much these will cost.

Play nice, I'm going to give you all an opportunity to clean up your posts. Tomorrow morning if the personal attacks are still there I will delete posts and issue warnings. Let's keep things civil and not take this thread further South.

Ok this is silly. I, like mojo and many others have had OUTSTANDING repeatable, reliable results with the hacked gh1.3. The GH1 was far more unreliable to me because mushy mud is far worse than an occasional lock up in 1000 takes to me. It's just like getting a little bit of exposed film.. you reset and move it. I apologize if I got a little smarmy - I cleaned up my posts. I just don't feel you are qualified to refute claims when you have done no shooting with the cameras in question - either the GH1.3 or the GH2. I have shot on both, the GH1.3 extensively, and the GH2 only one day, and never did I ever force anyone to accept my opnions as the word of God, I just posted that I don't think I am going to upgrade based on my current findings...

CURRENT findings... is key.

They delayed the release... maybe they are cleaning it up a bit and it will be grand. We'll see. I never attacked anyone in my post, it was a bunch of GH2 pre buyers going grape ape.

Just for the record, I have never had any lockups since I applied my settings (approx 6 months of shooting)

Was this directed at me?

With all your lenses?

It never happens on a SanDisk extreme card but I don't want to spend the money. The transcend 32 and now 64 gig class 10s are such a better value.... the only time the lock up happens is with some strange bug on a completely locked shot of high detail with the pancake 20mm, never with the kit lens.... and it is very very rare.. has not happened to me in months either.

Happens with the kit as well. Very static high-detail shot is what kills it in my experience. Like a lot of the scenes on the recently posted Japanese GH2 video or the opening cityscape scene of your recent music vid. In fact I don't know how you got away with it.

I'll clean up my smarminess but of course there were affronts in there. My contention was that I've heard and seen the lockups or whatever they are.. So in comparison I shot 2400 hours with my HVX and 500 with my HMC and never ever had a single lock up.... If there's one thing for sure, there's going to be things purchased and figured out in the wash.. Simple as that. Just as with my preference to not shooting with Sony camcorders and over the years I've been amazed to see how slow to the game canon has been. Panasonic has delivered on each camera and I was hoping for a Scarlett or two but we'll have to wait and see...

I've also found to not make assesments based upon other reports just as I don't make conclusions on movies based upon other people's views. If I did I would have never seen district 9 which was my favorite film of the year. To each there own... I see.

Too bad... I have had nothing but amazing results with the hack.

It's all in how things play out. I've heard of the horrors of the SD cards in the HMC150 but I haven't had any... knock on cyber wood. All in all, things will be largely dependent upon personal choices.

Perhaps different GH1s just have different tolerances.... what memory cards are you using.. again.. if you don't want to worry at all pop the extra money for the sandisk extreme

Here we go again, blame it on the GH1's exclusive characteristic to have variable performing parts in it and not anything else that could be causing differences in performance. How about that nobody is ever shooting the same exact image (which is the main reason) and that there are fake SD cards out there that are slower than the real ones.
