FEATURE: "feature: Quinn"

DAY 8
Behind the scenes photos.
Color grading has become a real challenge, It is definitely a skill worth learning. I am not going to play around with ACES anymore. People are not recommending it for the f3.

This all looks really good for someone just starting out! Congrats on stepping out and just doing it. Steady progress is still progress. As long as your cast & crew aren't in a hurry you're fine.
As for the camera switch- just do a slight correction for the more magenta tinted images of the Scarlet footage compared to the greener/cooler look of the F3 and you should be OK mixing and matching.

thank you. I also wrote down your notes, I will definitely be applying to the next grade. Cast and Crew have been patient, The actors are really anxious to work.

Color Graded adjustments.

Color Graded adjustments.

Wow! Color grading isn't easy. I listened to a few comments from users and made a few adjustments. Still learning learning learning. We can't afford a colorist so I need to learn. We are prepping for our next shoot. I will post stills.

Shooting on Scarlet with RED 18-50. Shooting in 4k. :cheesy: WOW! I do not miss my F3... I thought I would.

DAY 16 Completed

Another shoot day completed, i realize how difficult color grading can be, maybe one day we will be able to afford a colorist but until then i am forced to learn by trial and error. A couple graded and ungraded screen shots, Until I train myself the shots will continue to look awful. Sorry:undecided

Day 18

Just finished day 18, our lighting kit for the movie is 5 arri 300 watt and 2 kino flo parabeam 400 watt. It would be nice to get our hands on some HMI's. Our challenges at the moment are lighting and color grading, we do not have a DP for this project. Thanks for looking :)

So, who is doing the lighting? Are you tackling both directing and dp-ing positions? That's quite a handful. I ask, because I'm considering doing the same. I don't have the budget for a DP, and I can't bring myself to ask a pro DP who does this for a living, to work for free... which leaves me to do it on my own; which, I realize is insane, considering that I'll already be overwhelmed with directing (and unfortunately doing other things as well :(). It's completely insane. But that's my choice - insane or nothing, so I take insane.

Btw. I like what I see from your samples. How close are you to wrapping principal photography?

yeah, DP is important, I am directing and also the writer, I have to learn the lighting on my own, i am an actor learning and tackling all these things, no DP, no art department, editor, focus puller etc, just a bunch of PA's, grip and interns from a local community college nearby that i am trying to teach and learn from. 95% of the movie is shot at a high school (free location) in long beach, i try to make the rooms look like something else and shoot tight, All the stills you see are at the high school, I am also doing camera as well, i just bought a "CAME stabilizer", one more thing i will have to learn. Hoping to finish project by the end of the year, High school is only available to us on weekends because school is in session and summer school.

I agree, when there is no budget you will see compromises in the film. Think of it as another challenge to overcome, when something seems impossible i usually run toward it, call me crazy! :)

Heh, thanks, Drew. Very inspirational! The key thing is that you are learning throughout the process - that by itself makes it all worth it, as I see it. And btw., your stuff - at least what you're showing here - looks very nice, I like it a lot. I wish you much success!
