Just wrapped a one night music video for Fat Joe feat. Young Jeezy with a cameo from Diddy.

We shot with two 7Ds, one studio and one stock, and a 5DKMII mostly stock. We did a bunch of standard tripod shots, a handheld setups, a jimmy jib w/ a wireless follow focus, a jimmy jib on a insert car, and a suction hood mount.

This was our second video trying to pull of these kind of shots and we have learned a lot from the last Diddy video we did. We had three cameras which was really helpful to prerigging and we had a much bigger lighting kit. Mostly a Maxibrute, two 5ks, a bunch of 2ks, etc.

The DSLRS are becoming more serious and I'm seriously interested in some of the new toys at NAB I've been seeing online and from friends at the expo. The 7DPL, 1DPL, and Compact primes are looking very interesting as well.

The video is in post right now. Here is a full set photo gallery by Diana Levine:

Much luv, Matt. Good stuff. Question. Was the video shot 24p? 60p? Thanks.

cap: We shot at 24p most of the time for the sync stuff but anything we shoot at 30p/60p we conform back to 24fp i.e. slow motion

jokobim: I'm not at liberty to discuss the budget of the project but it obviously costs a little more to have all of this stuff and the crew

I've heard the footage is coming out very well and I'm looking forward to sharing the final video.

Cheers ,

Matt

I love seeing the Parris 7D rigging. It's just amazing to see these huge setups with that little ass camera on them. Great job. I just hope when the video airs they compress it right. for some reason on MTV jams all of the DSLR videos look terrible.

Looking fab Matt,

I wonder if they, Fat Joe or P Diddy, started posing when Matt Workman showed up with the 7d....

Looking forward the clip !

what other dslr music vids on Mtvjams are there? I only know the Diddy one cuz Matt also shot that. Would love to know some others.

jambredz I don't usually use the superflat or RAW picture setting for these kinds of videos because they are supposed to be overly sharp and saturated, the 7D's strong suit. Even if we shot 35mm we'd add a "7D" color correct over it in most cases. Not all but its pretty common.

Other popular 5D/7D videos ... all that is coming up is "Bedrock" and that recent Paramore video was half 5D ... yeah and the Diddy video I shot back in the day. I don't watch BET too much so I wouldn't know.

Abaddon Lots ... hah. Pretty key lens was the Canon 16-35mm f2.8L. Great on the 7D, even greater on the 5DMKII. Others are the EF-S 18-55mm and the Canon 70-200 f2.8L.

The Rest: thanks guys.

I'll definitely post the final video if I get a copy or if there is a decent online release.

Matt

PS: I'm upgrading my DSLR rig in a big way in the next coming months
:kali: (Old Rig)
