Faster workflow with Canon T2i??

I'm curious as to the hardware specs for the above statements. What are the minimum requirements to get acceptable editing performance on a PC without transcoding? Doesn't Vegas use only CPU power, not GPU hardware acceleration?

I don't know the minimum specs, but here is my set up, a standard shop bought iMac:

27" - i7 iMac + 8Gb

As a guide it can play 8-9 native 5D H.264 files at once without dropping a frame - might be more but only tested this many running at the same time - my previous G5 - PPC - Dual 2GHz - 2GB could not play even a single 5D native H.264 without stuttering and freezing.

I expect the graphics card plays a big role (?)

This stuff is just so easy to test...

Take 1 second of video.. ANY kind of video, place it on the time line. Apply some color and luma changes, maybe add a chroma effect.

Render it to a lossless codec
Render it to ProRes / DNxHD
Render it to h.264

Put the lossless file on an upper track. Pull the ProRes onto a lower track and do a difference effect between the two. Then remove that and pull the h.264 onto a lower track and look at that.

Difference will be obvious and immediate.

Only if your programs suck with gamma changes. FCP is notoriously bad in that regard.

I still don't get why this is better for image quality. I'd love for someone to make a side by side.

It's not necessarily (in my opinion) better image quality, just a more stable codec than h.264. I've noticed it sort of shifts the gamma a little when you transcode it too, it flattens out a little bit.

Can't comment on Vegas.. But this works full frame full rez in RT:

Oh... same thing with fewer layers in RT on a laptop (also works with the native AVCHD QT files from the 7D/T2i)

=)

Cineform Neoscene is waaaaay faster than Mpeg Stream clip. Also with the cineform codec it allows you to do all of your editing, grading, and transitions in realtime.

What program did you use to capture the on screen action for the videos ATL?

Thanks for those! I may have found a 'real' editing program I can use. If I purchase Edius Neo 2, is the upgrade to 2.5 a free downloadable upgrade or does it have to be bought as 2.5? I'm not having much luck googling info about 2.5. Is Neo 2 Booster software required to get the same type of performance as shown in the videos?
