We promised to be completely open about our project. We'll tell you the good news and the bad news straight up. I'm not sure it has ever been done this way, but it is quite fun...

Maybe you could take this approach into politics...after you guys get all the reservations filled. :)

Hey Jim,
Thanks for the update... love that new avatar at the head of the post.

I need Jarred's help to get it right... build a camera, no problem. Fix my avatar, big problem. What the hell are gifs anyway?

Jim

I don't know what you are using, but if you leave this page open, you can use the color picker in whatever photo editing software you may be using and select the red in the margin there. I am ass-uming that you are trying to make the red match so it is just the red symbol

Jason

Actually, I just realized, I don't know what I am talking about :) Just use the little red logo you got going there but on a transparent background, instead of trying to match the background color. Or just steal Greames. I'm shutting up now.

Jason

ha! I conquered the GIF... actually, Graeme stole my 1st one. So did Stuart and Rob. That's why I wanted a new one. :-)

Jim

Lookin' good, now it's on their "hit list".:)

EDIT: It changed again in the time it took me to post this...

this whole "being honest" thing is great and all and makes me feel like a part of the project but seriously...it makes me want the stuff even more, which is putting a damper on my wallet

I guess I won't have kids so I don't have to break the bad news of no college fund

Are these projections based on the assumption that 100% of all reservation holders actually follow through on the purchase? Or are your lead times based on an internal estimation of how many will actually complete the transaction?

It may or may not make a difference, but it was stated that all cameras (serial numbers) will be produced even if people decide to opt out; those which are not claimed will just go into a service or development pool. So I would guess they'll have an initial run of at least 1,000 cameras regardless of how many people actually come through with the purchase.

We have already turned down over 100 people who wanted us to extend the reservation period. Any reservations that fall out will be used for demos around the world. That being said... there is no sleeping until we finish the project. We are no longer concerned if there is a market for what we are building. We are focused on getting to the finish line. Trust me when I tell you that building this camera from scratch in a year or so is the most difficult (yet rewarding) project I have ever been involved in. The complexity is amazing. Having Ted, Graeme, Stuart, Rob, James and the rest of the RED crew working overtime is the ONLY reason we have a chance to make it. Getting the support from this group motivates us to not disappoint.

Reservations are closed. We will open back up for firm orders just prior to shipping to reservation holders.

Jim

Sorry... got confused. We hope to have reservation holders all shipped by the 3rd or 4th month.

Jim
