One of the most frequently asked questions we are getting is how long it will take for reservation holders to get their cameras. If we had not done the reservation "survey", it appears that it would have taken about a year based on our early estimates. Since we have received the reservations, we have been able to adjust the production output considerably and now think it will take about 3-4 months to satisfy all the reservation holders orders. We are working to see if we can reduce the time, but this is the current status. The next question is when will we begin shipping. We have no hard date because we still have a TON of work to do and obstacles to get past. We do expect to put the 1st cameras (beta) together in December... as we had planned and announced. We still feel that 1st part of 2007 is possible for 1st customer delivery. April seems realistic as of today. But please keep in mind that we are doing next to the impossible and a slip is not out of the question. So far we have not missed a target. But you just never know...

Hope that helps.

Jim

Thanks for the update Jim, pretty sure most of us are keen the camera gets made properly than rushed to meet anxious consumers!

Thanks for the info, Jim. I know you want to answer everyone's questions, but for my part I cringe when you give is a date because I know there are those out there who will take that for gospel. And if, for any reason, it doesn't happen on that date, they're like children who say, "You promised! you promised we'd go to Disneyland this weekend." They understand what they want and sometimes forget that there are other factors at work here. I know that you will get us the cameras as soon as you can. Given the state of the world, I'd rather have a great camera a little late than a rushed one on time...that then has to be "patched".

Full steam ahead, RED Team...:dankk2:

The longer it takes, the better. I'm still scrounging for money and probably will continue to scrounge far into next year.

Seems like every new product slips behind its guessed/anticipated production schedule, especially the first product from a new company. Don't even sweat it, people are going to have to understand that you cannot ship a product before it exists.

It's like they say: nine women, no matter how hard they try, cannot make a baby in one month.

GO, JIM, GO!

You've delivered on every promise you've ever publicly stated so far! You are the most visible, communicative, customer-driven CEO I've ever seen. Up until now, you and your team have proven that incredible things ARE possible, when you have such a dedicated group of talented people--all driven by a single vision, and fueled by a passion to accomplish something I've never quite witnessed in my lifetime--developing a product which will enable visual artists to finally have a ground-breaking, way-beyond-state-of-the-art tool, at a truly revolutionary price point. I feel like a huge dope for ever doubting your development timeline months ago in that very, very early RED thread! Godspeed, Jim!

Thank you Jim for the update. When will the full/formal tech' specification will be publish? How long does it take to do the camera system characterization?

Wow, 3-4 months? I understand it's just an estimate now, but that's remarkable. This project never ceases to amaze.

hmmm... It has been done before: I have done that with my girls and yes, it was fun as well...

... however: awesome.
here at laguun, we guestimated ~12 months delivery minimum for our two cams, we are in the 500 and high 900s...

Jim, anything on operating temperature range and humidity range spec's yet, may be some approximation?

I have much patience for this lovely journey, but my pu$$y is not so patient.
(I feed it resolution)
