Extreme II 16GB SD

I have an Extreme III 8 GB card 20MBs card I got a year ago and works great with the 550D
The new Extreme III is 30MBs which is great but the slower 20MBs all it needs
Is the new Extreme II 16GB 15MBs fast enough for HD on the 550D?

I know this topic has been around before, but the new cards keep upgrading speed.

***I copied this statement from another forum. True or False?

You need a card with a speed faster than 15 MBps (see below). My Sandisk Extreme-III (30 MBps) can handle 1080p OK.

  • 1080p = 1920w * 1080h * 3d = 6.2 MB, or about 1 MB/frame (compressed) times 30 frames/second requires 30MB/second. (less for 24 or 25 frames/second)

***While on another site the camera specs read as follows

File size 5.5 MB/sec (1080P), 5.5 MB/sec (720P), 2.8 MB/sec (VGA)

I have a sandisk ultra II that is 15 mbps and it's slower than my 133x kingston, however the sandisk NEVER gives buffer issues and the kingston does.. Strange no? Faster card with more buffer issues...

So you think it's a safe bet at half the price as the 30MB/s Extreme III?

I can't really counsel either way. I don't understand the logic with my cards and why the slower one never gives me buffer issues where as the faster one does... It's quite frustrating actually.

Bought the Extreme III 30MB/s. Back to work.
