Exporting From Fcp At Full Res

How do I export from FCP edited footage captured from the P2 card without losing any quality? The goal is to bring it to a post house to color and then have them put it on tape without ever having to downres. It seems like doing anything from FCP causes a loss of quality.

Thanks!

Are you exporting to a hard drive and QT file?

Then export QT Movie/Current Settings/Audio and Video/Self Contained/No Recompression.

And how are you assessing the "loss of quality?" If it is the QT Player, make certain you have full/best quality enabled.

To be sure no quality is lost in FCP:

- Be sure that the sequence settings match the format of the source clips. When it does, you don't need to render when you edit something into the sequence.

- When exporting, use "Export>QuickTime Movie". NOT "Export>Using QuickTime Conversion". Be sure to check "Make Movie Selfcontained" to flatten the movie file.

- If any DV/DVCPRO type Movie looks soft in the QT player, check preferences> "Use High Quality Video settings when available" inside the QT player. This affects playback only, not the encoding!
