Experimenting with DVX200 Color

So I finally downloaded the GH4 "Standard" scene file for a shoot where I needed to match the two yesterday. Made some modifications that didn't quite turn out the way I wanted, but overall all I can say is "Daaaaaaaaaang"...

Pity it took six months for Panasonic to get it right, but holy crap I couldn't be happier with the image right now.

I'm not a GH4 owner but I like the looks of that scene. Occasionally in certain settings the blacks look a little crushed but typically it seems more of a lighting problem and not necessarily a problem with the scene file. I thinks it's a very good overall scene. I'd really like to see a couple of more scenes professionally done in the new firmware. For now I've replaced factory scene 4 with the GH4 scene and I think that gives you some decent flexibility right out of the gate. Factory scene 4 was my least favorite scene under the conditions that I tried it in.

I’m a GH4 owner and have always liked the images from it using the Natural Profile however I also find that the shadow areas fall off very quickly into black. Now that I have a DVX200 with the Like GH4 scene file installed I’m delighted that my 2-GH4’s and my DVX200 match, on the other hand I’m starting to wonder if there might be an even better way to match these cameras that would solve my concern about the shadow areas.

Like you I would like to see more DVX200 professionally created scene files created to match existing profiles in Panasonic cameras like the GH4.

@7DDude
Many thanks for your feedback. Since Edius has the primary colour corection filter with a v-log l template now it´s quit easy to grade the footage.

@Mike
Recorded internally 3840*2160/50p, 8 bit, 4:2:0 at 150 Mbps (h.264).

Not sure what you're saying. There are two things that could apply here:

1) if you turn on VIDEO OUT OSD, to overlay the text and graphics on the LCD to an external monitor, then that only works in 1080. The VIDEO OUT OSD will be disabled when shooting UHD/4K.

2) You can monitor and externally record UHD and 4K at full resolution. There is, however, a restriction when shooting UHD/60p (or 50p) - you can monitor it externally at full resolution, but *not* while recording internally. If you start internal recording, then the HDMI output drops down to 1080p while the recording is active, and returns to UHD as soon as the internal recording stops. If you're not recording internally, you can get the full resolution full frame rate display externally, and you can record that externally.
