Experimenting with DVX200 Color

As I stated a few pages back, I use the Varizoom VZ-Rock-PZFI controller. You have a big focus control, an iris control and a big zoom rocker. You can switch between M and A for focus and iris, as well as record start-stop. The focus on the DVX should be at auto focus, than you can switch between A and M on the Varizoom.
It works very well on the DVX200 and on the AG130A
Good luck!

Sorry, don't post much, thought I replied to Greg's comment on the varizoom. I have both the varizoom model you referenced in your posting as well as the pro model which is the same controller mounted on a hand grip. I've attached the handgrip via the zacuto system to my DVX200.

I'm sure I'm limiting myself by using a default scene files but they've always looked good to my eyes and I've never received a negative comment back from any organization or network that I've shot for. As soon as I saw the default scenes in the DVX200 before and even after the first firmware upgrade I knew I wasn't going to be able hand over footage shot with it. A few of Barry's scenes have got me close and I'm hoping the new firmware will get me where I need to be.

Did you ever find a scene file that worked for you? I am in the same boat.

I've been using the Still Like GH4 scene for most stuff but it's not a one scene wonder. Some of the other factory scenes aren't bad but I expect we will see some more custom scenes produced using the new firmware in the new future.

DSLR Scene file vs Regular Scene 1

DSLR Scene file vs Regular Scene 1

All,

I downloaded DSLR scene files from berrys post...and they video looks much better...I did not change any skin tone version etc...just load scene file and select scene1..... check sample video..

ISO 2000
FPS50
2400K temp
LED with orange gel

I like the skin colors of DSLR but blacks are crushed...I see details lost...so how can I get details like scene 1 of firmware update 1.65 has....thank you.

The blacks were crushed on purpose in that scene file, to make it better match a 5D/7D. You can adjust that easily in the scene file, just raise the BLACK GAMMA and the MASTER PEDESTAL. I don't remember what settings I set them at in that scene file, but set 'em both to zero and you should see a lot more shadow detail.

Hello everyone! So when Barry initially released his gh4 scene files a few months ago, my dvx200 wasn't loading the values correctly. Could someone share the first few settings for the SCENE4 "still" file so I can compare. I.E. master ped, master detail, gamma, etc. Thanks all!

I don't have my camera nearby right now but probably the fastest way for you to verify the scene files on your own is to reset just your scenes back to the original factory settings and then jot a few settings down. Reload the GH4 scenes and compare the settings. It should take less than 5 minutes and you'll know if they loaded.

Hey mapper. The problem before was that I was on a multi cam shoot and everyone loaded Barry's scene files, and my settings were off. They were loading and changing the files, just not to the intended settings. (SD where it should have been HD, Filmlike1 where it should have been Cine-V). So I'd just like to make sure my settings are correct for this "still" scene file.

Ok, these are some of the details from SCN4

Master Detail 0
Detail Coring 1
Skin Tone Dtl OFF
V Detail Level 0
Knee Ape Level 2

Chrima Level -5
Matrix Norm1
Gamma Mode Filmlike3
Black Gamma -8
Black Gamma Range 2
Knee Mode Manual
Knee Master Point 93.0
Knee Master Slope 85

Thanks. I just reloaded the scene file and I'm getting the following:
Chroma Level: 0
Master Detail: +10
Matrix: Norm2
Gamma: Filmlike2
Black Gamma: -8
Black Gamma Range: 3
Knee Master pt: 80
Knee Slope: 10

This was after formatting a card, formatting the card, saving the scene files, and then replacing them with the new one from panasonic's website. Any thoughts as to why my camera isn't getting the correct information?

Wait, we might be talking about two different scenes. The settings that I posted were was SCN4 from Barry's GH4 Scene file. You had mentioned Barry's scenes so that's why I posted that file. Now that you are talking about downloading it from the Panasonic's site I am questioning if you are talking about the GH4 Still Like scene that someone at Panasonic came up with and not the one from Barry's GH4 scenes.

After reviewing these settings, these are the correct settings for Panasonic's GH4 Still Like scene SCN4 which is not part of Barry's GH4 scenes. That may be where you are mixed up.

Sorry for the confusion. The error happened before when I was loading Barry's scene files and comparing them to the other cameras that also loaded them on the shoot. My settings were off. My question today was because that happened previously, if someone could lay out the Panasonic "still" like custom scene file so that I could see if this problem happened again.
