GH2 EXCLUSIVE Noktor 12mm 1.6 on GH2 !

a test between those 2 lenses would be amazing. i love what ive seen from this noktor so far, i actually really like the low saturation/contrast characteristics of the lens, as a starting point at least.

Yes, for some that could well be a plus. I'm used to and fond of old Soviet glass which tends to saturate more than others. Another plus for the SLR is the step-less aperture. I'm thinking of converting at least one of my lenses to this mode. It is very liberating in varying light situations.

It has some nice characteristics. It flares quite a bit at 1.6. I wish the focus ring was near the front though.

Seb,

Good to see you at work again and to watch your ever patient and helpful petite assistant growing up. And thank you for the videos. There is much there to enjoy.

My main issue with the lens is its color rendition. I played with the lens for several hours and while some video footage looked great, a lot of it looked "washed out". I seemed to notice a similar effect in your footage. It also didn't respond too well in the ETC mode.

The Olympus on the other hand, although substantially more expensive, makes the images pop, big time. I put it down to their experience with lens coating. And it performs very well in ETC mode and of course will provide auto focus if required. I seemed at times to struggle with focus on the SLR lens.

Having said that, the SLR lens comes in at a more palatable price point and the non distorting optics are indeed a marvel. Add two additional stops over the Olympus and I believe many will be happy. I'm passing however for the first reason I mentioned.

Best wishes,

Jurek

Have you done any side by side testing of these two lenses?

I'd love to see some side by sides between the Olympus and the SLRmagic.... I'm torn cause each have advantages. I would like to be able to use this on the steadicam so the autofocus is nice.... atleast till I get a wireless follow focus.

I took a couple of clips with the SLR that I had previously shot with the Olympus. I tried to get the framing the same although I didn't match settings. I won't be able to really look at them until Monday night. If they are of any use, I will post them.

The Olympus 12mm f2 is reputedly fully automatic with near telepathic face recognition. This is cheaper but is this one fully automatic on the GH2 bodies?

I just tried the Oly manualy, and the Noktor is a third part lens so only manual

Yes, where to buy in US?, B&H? , when?
In EU and US the lens will be SLR Magic HyperPrime 12mm F1.6 with a SLR Magic black ring. (TBA. around End November or December)
In other parts of the world it will be the Noktor HyperPrime 12mm F1.6 with the Noktor green ring -the one I'm using for this test (available in October)

Looks like a winner, now just give me redrockmicro follow focus wireless or with wire (do not care) and I´m happy

Actually I heard and read about certain CCTV lenses and claimings that they are rebranded. If you scroll down in this thread http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1103/12mm-f1.6-noktor-/p1 you will see some examples from different cctv manufactures.

The edge sharpness of many cctv lenses which I saw so far were not that good...

For example the Fujian 35mm 1.7 in comparison to Panasonic 25mm 1.4

But has actually someone tested this and can offer some video examples so people can see the differences to the Noktor lenses ? Hard to imagine they are the same.

That noktor 50mm .95 looks pretty interesting too but it's a grand and I still would rather have the Nokton 25mm... but it's nice too see more manual lenses coming out. I for one plan on buying this when it's in stock.

The Voigtlander 25mm .95 is an absolute must IMHO.
