Error: Running out of Memory

I tried it and the render still crashes :( thanks for trying to find a solution haha.

does anyone know if I will be able to keep all my projects on an external hdd, then reinstall the OS for windows 7, then slap Vegas back on and continue my projects? or will the files be corrupt etc...

I've done this four times with Vegas 9. I went from Win7 Beta to Win7 Pro on both my laptop and main editing machine, and I've rescrubbed both since then to get fresh installs.

As long as all your files are on the external, you'll be just fine.

I will say this. Vegas 9 has been VERY problematic for many people. Frankly, I'd recommend going to Windows 8.0c if you can. It was a LOT more stable. After 7 years, I am terminating my relationship with Vegas next week. Too many problems, not enough stability or features.

so far, with W7 64 bit, 8GBs RAM, 9.0e I've had zero problems. But I have not been 'pushing any envelopes'. I watch Perfmon as I render, and can say that it uses all four cores just fine, with no memory leaks. 45 minute AVCHD footage renders with no problems now. Not true with 32 Bit Vegas 9.0e on same machine (!). It's still less problematic for me than FCP on Mac Pro. No crashes there, just aggravation...let us know how you like AVID after a few months with it. I'd be interested in knowing.

I am leaning the same way unfortunately. Going with Avid :)

Me too. I was thoroughly impressed with MC4 in December during my trial, and I was able to complete 3 stalled Vegas projects in 3 weeks time including 1 multi-cam project.

I've got MC4 on the way, with an MC5 upgrade coupon, and I'll be ordering MC5 the day it ships.

I've actually got a short film sitting on my drives right now waiting for Avid to come in. I refuse to even start cutting it in Vegas. I did cut the trailer in Vegas and that went quite smoothly. But no more long form projects for me in it.

By the way Chris, a ground fault interrupter will help with allowing your hair to come back down. Shouldn't try to use an electric toothbrush with a water pic while you run hot water to wash your face. You will usually blow your hair up doing that without proper grounding in the bathroom... I was able to get married and have children after discovering GFI. Have been a productive member of society since then...unfortunately my children are now either teachers or in prison. Can't decide which is the right road...but then again, both have their own merits...

So sad I really like Vegas. I have had some luck with killing all non editing processes before render...antivirus etc. Then I set my screen resolution to super low, turn off my monitors and come back after render. That seems to have cleared up 90% of my memory problems and I'm sure others will probably point out that it should have no effect but it is what it is ;)

I also would like to know how former Vegas users are finding Avid. My trouble is I've invested so much in plugins :(

so any real solution to this "low on memory error"?im doing this music video on vegas 9e 32bit (yes im using MBL), i have an i7 machine win 7 with 6gb ram(on 32 only 4 can be used).now ,the project is about 10 tracks plus an audio track, many plugins involved (about 3 mbl plugns) , Im rendering to .mp4 , its about 5:30 min music video, vegas renders about 60% of the project than it stops and get this "low on memory error", i tried 3 tmes last night, and about 60-70% mark i get this error ..i can try to upgrad to 64 bit vegas, but i wanna use MBL, so that s going to have to be my last option ..now regarding the tab menu and how much ram is suppose to be allocated and rendirng threads(i have set as 8 now because of hyperthreading ) ,for my case what should be the best values for i7 machine and 6gb ram on vegas pro 9e 32 bit ...thanks for any help..

Render the video in 1 minute sections to an uncompressed or lossless codec. Then take the 1 minute sections that have been rendered and create your final.

Perrone, thanks for the quick reply, if you dont mind , i never done rendering to uncompressed format, if you dont mind,is it RENDER AS avi than choose the uncompressed option ? thanks again ..so there wont be any loss of quality doing a one min sections? thanks again, i think your tip might save the day for me..

That's correct. Rendering to uncompressed, makes big files, but there is zero fidelity loss. It is a pixel for pixel perfect copy.

I had this with MBL.

I found out, at least in my case that if i changed the look to something more subtle it was fine.

Try removing a few of your FX in MBL like diffuses and blurs and try a render...

wow Perrone this is getting weirder and weirder ..i tried to do 1 min sec of uncompressed and vegas wont render more than 25 sec with out getting that low on memory error..man, what im i suppose to do, i mean my pc is i7 fast with 6gb of ram( i know i can only use 4 for 32bit vegas) and i cant even render 30 sec..somethign is wrong, im going to try uninstall vegas and install it again ..quick question after a clean install of vegas 32bit how much should i change the dynamic ram value to? and als0 the rendering threads (would that be 8 in my case since i have hyperthreading/) ?

Derkoj, i think your right, its all because of MBL, i wish we can use it on 64 bit vegas, but we cant, so im at a tough decision now to either cut most mbl out , or just not use mbl ..

either way, this sucks big time..i mean, i dont know, im lost for words..

what i ended up doing for mine was rendering from vegas to a cineform Avi, i got so far then got the error, i then rendered from just before the error to the end & then joined the avis in a new project & rendered the final output.

Welcome to why so many of us have left Vegas for a professional product. When I am working on a film (got 2 going right now) I don't have time for this kind of jacking around.

Here's the deal:

In Vegas, you have to set the dynamic RAM to zero to do these renders. I've found that if I have long GOP on the timeline (HDV, XDCam, AVCHD) these problems are more likely to occur so I abandoned them long ago for demanding work.

The 64bit version of Vegas doesn't get these same errors, but of course Magic Bullet and other plugins don't necessarily work with that version. So I was doing my main renders in 64bit, then going into 32 bit mode, doing my MB Looks stuff, and just rending out that one effect.

I can tell you that since I've moved to another NLE, I have not gotten a single low memory error. Zero. MB Looks or not.

I moved from Premiere to Vegas before sony bought it years ago as i regularly got crashes & errors in premiere.

My Vegas experience has only included this error & only now when i shoot & edit 1080P footage.

I've dabbled in FCP & Premiere since then but i just can't get on with A to B style editing and the adding to the bin malarkey.

However no matter how i try to be content with Vegas i can't be, i feel it's not professional and i hate the lack of plugins compared to other NLE

so guys, after all this im also looking into moving on to a new nle /but i donty want to start learning a new one and have sony come up with a new version of vegas that fixes al ll these errors, although i never tried other programs , the reason i liked vegas was the real time preview and the easy of use (coming from pro tools) i found it similar in style ..now , do you guys think vegas will catch up soon (any news on what might be upcoming?) or is it time to start learning a new NLE, and if it is, which one would be best , pp cs5? after effects? thanks

Frankly, no I don't. It's not that I don't think the folks at SCS aren't willing to try, I just think they don't have the resources required to do the job. I have used the program for 7 years, but the move to HD essentially meant I'd need to move away from Vegas.

or is it time to start learning a new NLE, and if it is, which one would be best , pp cs5? after effects? thanks

No one can tell you what is "best for you". You have to discover that for yourself. After Effects is not an editor, it's an effects program. CS5 is an exceptionally powerful NLE, but it demands quite a lot of computing power. I chose to go with Avid. I just felt it was best for my needs, though it is very pricey compared to other apps. You do get a lot for your money though. Edius is another viable option for many editors.

I suggest you try the various options and see what you like best. I think only Adobe CS5 has a crippled trial version. All the others are fully featured.

I have been screwing around with this for a week..cause I love MBL. I have come to the conclusion again..that 32bit Vegas is a piece of crap!!!!
