Error: Running out of Memory

I have 4GB of RAM and a Core2Duo 3.0Ghz system. 32bit Windows XP SP2 and 32bit vegas 9.0d. Trying to export the 720P project (2 minutes long) to a 720 WMV file. It will sometimes complete, or get very close to it and sometimes it will crash immediately.

I'm using .mov from a Canon T2i.

Any tips? I've done the CFF exporer to allow greater than 2GB addressing, and that seemed to help at first, but no more...

Vegas hates the .mov format, this is all over the net. Before editing your footage you need to convert it to something vegas will have no problem editing. I highly recommend Cineform neoscene - http://www.cineform.com/neoscene/ - there is no quality loss and you will see the difference. You can download a 7 day trial before you buy it. The problems you're experiencing with rendering is typical with editing the .mov raw files.

I don't even know where to begin to describe how wrong this is. About the only thing you got right is that Neoscene works well.

I have this same issue in 32bit Vegas as well. I so want to use MBL but have abanded it as it will crash every time I try to render in 32bit mode! Same error (low on memory) To me..Vegas is usless in 32bit mode. 64bit is awesome. Takes advantage of my 12gig of ram.

It has nothing to do with amount of RAM. Something else is causing this other than RAM. I had the same problem last night with MOV files in 64 Bit Vegas. Same issue. Low memory error, Vegas crashed. That's what brought me to this post. I can distinctly say that the amount of RAM is a side issue. Possible causes? Bugs, memory leaks, something eating system resources, who knows. But I had tons of RAM available when my machine crashed. I was able to reproduce it. That sounds like bug to me.

ive been dealing with this all night! ive edited together a 2:15 minute music video with MBL, and it wont even render to SD! I'm running a core i72.8ghz with 4gb ram on vista 32bit. The sony vegas version is 9.0c WTF!!!!
the video is due tomorrow, and it wont even start rendering, vegas immediately crashes!

How much RAM do you have allocated to preview? It's under Options > Preferences. Any RAM you have allocated here is RAM that isn't available for rendering.

Regarding the crashing with MBL, which I assume is Magic Bullet Looks, I believe that there is an option for "GPU Rendering" try changing that and see what happens.

Chris, when this is all over, you might want to consider moving to the latest build of Vegas (e) and upgrading to 64 bit Windows 7, if you are sure your other software supports it. The ability to utilize all of your available RAM is key. Windows 32 bit only can use 4GBs and even then the apps get much less as the OS needs some of that.

i figured id have to upgrade to 7 64bit, but luckily i found a solution to my problem. I have neo scene, but the project i edited was for school (not a big deal) so i was lazy and didnt convert the files.
I ended up converting all the files i used in the timeline, then throwing away the original files so i would get the media lost box. then i took the converted files and replaced them with all the originals. Everything was kept in sync so it worked!

As Jerry said.

I have experienced the same problem with MB and 32 bit for a year.
I installed 9e the other day and rendered a 5 min sample project with MB with no problem.

9e is one for one with Magic Bullet. Only time and additional tries will tell.

so I have 9.0e now, and the render stilll crashes! low memory error!!!
all clips are cineform too and its only a 2:15min video!

Chris, I would start to suspect your RAM size. For instance, you are using HD sized clips, right? And now you have rendered out your files to Neo's AVI format, which expands their size enormously, from what I've seen. You are left with loading Vegas, and large files into RAM. While Neo will help this, you don't likely have a lot of RAM left in your system. (3+MB after Windows 32 loads + Vegas and other stuff you have running in background). So you may be RAM constrained. I just don't know what Vegas is doing 'under the covers' with it's use of RAM and rendering. What I would hope is that it's reading from disk and writing back to disk, rather than trying to load it all in RAM. But maybe that's not what is optimal from a programming standpoint.

Anyway, there could be other tweeks, try getting the GPU rendering situation understood, and work on getting your 64 bit OS upgrade which should include adding RAM to your system, as your 4 GBs RAM will be barely enough with a 64 bit os to get you running Word and Excel at the same time, let alone rendering HD. My thoughts only. Willing to be corrected.

correct me if i'm wrong, but if i upgrade to windows 7 64bit, I would loose all projects and installs correct?
at this moment upgrading doesn't seem like the best option, does anyone have a compression type 1280x720 that is not very harsh for the computer? sounds kinda weird but hey

I fixed it. Used CFF Explorer and opened the Vegas 9 executable. I had done this before, but once you update Vegas, it writes out a new executable, thus you have to apply the "use more than 2GB of memory" fix...

Hope this helps someone!

I tried it and the render still crashes :( thanks for trying to find a solution haha.

does anyone know if I will be able to keep all my projects on an external hdd, then reinstall the OS for windows 7, then slap Vegas back on and continue my projects? or will the files be corrupt etc...
