Effluvium - Directed by Bill Christensen

And the best liberal use of a smoke machine goes to..... Okay, not sure I got this and it was the ending up until the zombie attack I thought the guy was just tripping balls because of the smoke. If so why did the ghost crew get effected so quickly? I'm not fond of the SD image, unless it's a stylistic choice, there is no excuse for anything but HD. Overall a good short.

Pretty fun original concept. Works in and of itself, but practical filmmaking-wise kind of let’s you do THE FOG on a smaller interior scale. Smart.

Nice shot around 1:50 with all the smoke and the color temp of the outdoor light.

Ah man you have a basement. Jealous. Great for horror.
Well shot too!

Really nice in the basement once the whispering starts.

The lady that comes out and screams didn’t work as well for me - just seemed to human / normal - didn’t see what she needed help from. Seemed like a missed horror beat to not have her very pale or do something with the shutter speed or something.

Great when the mist comes through the vent at the end. Nice editing and sound. Kind of Evil Dead in a good way.

Now once all the people are coming out from everywhere in the house they’re all stylized and tweaked. Works well. With the lady in the basement maybe you wanted her to seem more natural to give yourself somewhere to go, but still needed to be just a little heightened.

Love that you stay focused on his friend’s feet while he drags him back - cool shot, conveys a lot.

No backwards smoke or did I miss it? Maybe it’s played out, but (unless I missed it) it’s an easy technic I’m surprised you didn’t use. You know - you could show the smoke hiding back in the basement by playing the footage backwards so the mist goes back into the vent. Or have the actor come out of his mind controlled state by having the fog roll away from him in one shot.

Nice classic horror vibe with this one with a lot of great shots!
