Actually I'm kind of surprised Sony has managed to squeeze in another product between the already similar featureset of the F5 and FS700 and still I can see how they don't quite overlap. This camera is still probably using the 2 year old FS700 sensor, and the FS700 still has 4K RAW output (soon to record to prores on the 7Q) and 120fps 4K via 7Q and 240fps HD internally. Also it's looking like this is a $10K camera (+$2500 for a bulky RAW port) where an FS700 used is ~$6K. I guess it seems like this might be more likely to screw with the F5 market which was already a bit thin since this offers pretty much everything the F5 does but on less expensive media and batteries and includes an EVF/LCD all in a more useable formfactor. Seems like the only thing an F5 has now is that it docks well with the R5 RAW and may support Prores without a bulky addon.

Anyone know how Japanese prices usually relate to US prices? This lists 980k yen which is about $9100USD (http://www.sony.co.jp/SonyInfo/News/Press/201409/14-086/)
The only reference to US prices I've seen just say under $10k...

Isn't the FS7 clearly aimed at the one-man-band market?
Basicly you get a shoulder mount S35 camera without any additional stuff. Recording in 10bit up to 4k intenally,
integrated shoulder mount, handgrip and EVF/display on the right position?
For RAW and ProRes you need external add-ons like the FS700 but as a stand alone camera, it pretty much seems to
work like the C300 but with shoulder-mount form and 10bit and 4k for the same price...

For me, as a FS100 owner, who never saw a reason to upgrade to the FS700, this is the right camera, I was waiting
for. 10k bucks isn't pocket money, but with 1k extra for batteries and media you're pretty much ready to go, if you
already own lenses for e-mount.
 
Hmm, the more I'm seeing, the more I'm liking it. Even if it comes in at $14.5 for body, zoom lens and attachment, that's still around £9k. Seems like a lot of camera for that price.
 
Yes I agree - I may sell my PMW-350 and add this to my FS700 - as long as the lens copes OK with event work, it may be an option.

Event work is only a small part of what we do though, so having FS700 and FS7 for two camera shoots would be good.
 
That lens has got to be alright for event work, giving you a range of 42 - 202 or something. Another useful tool in the armoury.

So what'll be the best power zoom lens to fit and work on it - faster zoom than my SLOOOOOW FS700 kit lens? Slow in both regards!
