E-mount FS700II 4K camcorder?

Looks good. It could seriously persuade me to wait and exchange the FS700, rather than purchase a 7Q.
Let's just wait and get confirmation on specs, performance, price and availability.

I was just about to post but you bear me to it.

Side de styling looks horrible!
And at first I was like: "it's so a lot taller!! But then it's a little shorter, so even though is bigger it might be more compact".

Then I've noticed it's not everything what I see. Look in the highlights on the right...
It's like a mini F35/65, or a mini URSA

Yes, it looks a little cheap and plasticky - don't like the look of the top handle. But it appears to have the viewfinder in the right place, plus dual-slot card slots, that's good news.

Yes, but not SD anymore :/

It's hard to tell rom this pic but plastic can actually be a bit better. I doubt this evf will be in the package (unless it hasn't got lcd in the front).

Wonder if the raw output is still the same I.e. Will work straight away with the O7Q?

They obviously need the faster XQD transfer speeds for the 4K compressed.
Of course, but UHS II or III would be more affordable.

Anyway!
Almost like an Alexa... ;)

Oh well... at least it's got that same arch on the right, haha :D

Hard to imagine it will be connected with the NEX-FS700 or any NEX series. Probably smart for Sony to start trying to get more adoption for their accessories. F5/F55 really push people into buying expensive Sony viewfinders, batteries, and media, where the FS700 has a built in LCD/VF and uses relatively inexpensive batteries and media.

I'd guess this camera will cost at least $10k plus really require or at least benefit from Sony's $3-5k viewfinders $300 media and $500 batteries. Compare that to the FS700's $100 batteries and $30 media and included LCD. Also the camera appears to be about twice the size of an FS700. That said it might be worthwhile since frankly I've been a bit disappointed with the development progress on my 7Q and really don't care for 400MBps 4k. If CD starts supporting the FS700's compressed 2k 240fps and compressed 4k up to 120fps and heavier compression flavors soon then we're talking, but otherwise this new camera is looking like it might be a good alternative.

Good point! It may not be FS700 replacement at all. It may sit between FS700 and F5. Similarly when FS700 come out - it wasn't replacement for FS100.

I heard a rumour that it might support 180 fps continuous (in XAVC I'm guessing). Not sure how true that is though.

Do we know the size for a fact from that picture? Maybe it's pretty small right? Hoping?

What we know:
Well it's definitely taller than Sony's current rectangular boxes (FS100/700), it has a pretty excellent button layout, and the viewfinder is on the correct place and can be positioned anywhere. Doesn't seem to have a screen though, perhaps the evf serves as a monitor with a loop, would be cool. ND wheel is there and also correctly placed.
It does 4K XAVC internal, to dual XQD slots, which is a very good, solid, inexpensive fast media.
It has a top handle that looks very cheap? And it has a curved (shoulder?) bottom and a curvy rear end, fine by me :)

I guess what will make it or break it (design-wise) is what's on the right side of the camera. If it has a nice articulating grip with enough controls (C300's success is based on that grip!), and the camera is not comically large or heavy, it will be a very solid ergonomic design.

This is not an FS100 successor and not an FS700 successor either. This is a pro 4K XDCAM.

First impression: Damn that thing is ugly ;)
Doesn't quite seem like a FS700 mkII but rather something new and more of an URSA killer than a C100 killer (as some rumour had it to be).

I was hoping for something a bit more streamlined, that could be used hand held (not shoulder mounted). The FS700 actually works quite good for that when using the light weight SEL 20, 35 or 50mm lenses. But balance is a bit off.

Maybe there will be more than one new camera? One FS100, lower end camera and then this that replaces the FS700...

Very curious to see full specs and pricing of this one though.
Bring on the IBC! ;)

It looks like they've greatly improved ergonomics.
NOT!

You could be right, but it looks like they're going in a different direction than the c100 and c300. This is a shoulder mounted camera, it appears, not "handheld".

Just a guess here but looking back at the original fs700 announcement in 2012, it seems likely that an f5 replacement is eminent in 2015. Its like clock work, Sony released the fs700 and then 6 months later we got the f5. Now it looks like they'll release this fs700 II in spring 2015 then by fall we'll have the F6. As an origional fs700 owner I'm thinking to myself skip the fs700 II, just go for the F6. As different as the fs700II seems I'm not sure we'll get that much better of an image then what we have already with the fs700/7q. Hey If I was looking for a camera right now, I would certainly be happy with this pre announcemt, looks interesting so far. But im not convinced this round of technology will "break the mold" if you will. I've witnessed first hand how the fs700/7q cuts excellent with the f55. I don't think the the new fs700II will beat the f55 in the least bit, but I'm almost positive the new F6 will. With that said, it's obvious Sony will release 4k xvac in the F5. I bet with in the next 2 weeks we'll hear something. I love the F5, I sure hope Sony gives it justice and doesn't throw us OG fs700 users to the wolves.

For someone like me who's held back from purchasing the 7Q until 4K Pro Res arrives, it does add other possibilities/alternatives into the mix. I think if you already have the 7Q it may not possibly be enough to persuade you to make the switch. But it's all hypothetical until the official announcements and hands-on reviews.

I was not expecting that the new camera will be such a killer !

Anyway, anyone noticed how the back looks like ? Seems like a dock for either, a battery or, more likely, the AXS-R5 RAW recorder. What do you think ?

I hope they will show a prototype or final model at IBC...
