E-mount FS700II 4K camcorder?

Certainly looks interesting. If it really is 4k 422 xavc and $8k I might have to try to sell my fs700+7q package for $10k to buy one...

Tough call though since I like that my fs700 is about half the size, and the 7q is nice but still feels buggy and missing so many basic features and it's another thing to power and mount and assemble/pack.

Still curious how this isn't an fs700 replacement. Either they are improving the fs700 or just dropping its price. Hoping for the former but betting on the latter.
 
it looks like the new lens doesn't have a grip for zoom control... which is kinda a stupid decision considering the form factor of the upcoming camera and the need of a handgrip in that position...

It may not be ideal to apply too much pressure and weight through a lens grip where there is only the E-mount, whereas an FZ-mount may be better for that type of design? I agree, need provision for a hand grip with zoom control for on the shoulder ENG style use, and hopefully such accessory is announced today.

well XAVC4K is an efficient codec, bot not that artefact-free than ProRes4K...

240fps and RAW only possible via interface unit (haha incredible that they still try to sell this brick), maybe via 7Q?

all in all a very good design with that extendable handgrip i think.
this could kick the f5 out of the market as well...

Perfect for documentaries and sort of.
As I thought it doesn't want the FS100/700 batteries but the newer BP-U type. :(
No internal RAW of course as many of us feared. But with optional doc possible.
That's the first no compromise S35 camera for 10bit loving one-man-band style shooting.

I won't need ProRes as XAVC is very nice and holds up well enough for grading.
The new slog3 will be anice addition. We need to see, how well this can be handled in post,
but i'm reallay looking forward to this beast.

It looks it's not any bigger than a FS700 with additional recorder/display and a mini rig for better handling.

It seems that this will be a pain in the ass for FS700 and F5 sales if you want that kind of 10bit internal 4k.
But: In the end I love to see, that Sony now starts to build "one that rules them all" and not one without NDs
and internal 4k, one with 10bit but without internal4k and one expensive one that can do everything.

Now that will give the other manufacturers a hard time. Thank you Sony.

Now please concentrate on a proper lens. Why do they suggest to use the 28-135 lens, which is meant for
"full-frame" cameras - doesn't make much sense to me.
 
Sony Japan already set the official website and schedule for "touch and try" kinda seminar in October, seems they really need to push this new boy :)
 
There is so much to love about this new camera...I will be keeping one of my 2 sony fs700 for raw and 120fps in 4k with the odyssey though...and remember odyssey is so much more than just a great monitor - recorder....
 
I actually love it.

Would be my number one cam if i already did not own FS700/7Q. I am fairly certain however that "3rd party recorders" will include all the 7Q has to offer, so for us FS700 owners, we may just have to get a new camera, not switching the recorder!
 
I like the idea of the handle, but it doesn't look like it'll land in a comfortable position — seems like it would set your right hand too far to the right, which would cause the camera to want to lean left.

They also should have had a hi-hat ready to set it on during the live presentation, as the handle kept it from being set down on that table they had on stage.
