E-mount FS700II 4K camcorder?

sony will deliver everything and even more...it will canibalize the f5 drastically all in the favor of selling a bunch of these new cameras...I believe that slow mo up to 180fps, raw to external odyssey, 4k internal up to 60fps, and an overall better internal 4:2:2 codec will be included...otherwise would it make any sense at all distributing something new?

FS7 will have most of our favorite stuff inside (not sure about the sensor and image quality) but that URSA kinda form factor...gee i dont know.

many doc shooter might love that big shoulder style but i personally would love to have much smaller body, something we can put on 3 axis gimbal for example.

I suspect you're joking, but I would hesitate to buy anything with a CMV12000 sensor in it. Fortunately, the Axiom sensor is supposed to be upgradable. With any luck, by the time it'the Axiom is officially released, a better sensor (i.e., greater light sensitivity and dynamic range and little or no fixed-pattern noise) will be available.

I'm sort of half joking. I'm probably going to go for the Beta as it will, in the long run, be quite good value I suspect. But I'm aware it will have it's limitations. I'm also keen to support the project - it is basically what Red should have been: open source, not a cult!

I like the idea that anyone can build core components for it (sensor block, OLPF, image processor, record module, IO modules, timecode, power, everything!) so you get a camera with each component built by specialists. What's your issue with the CMV12000? 300fps @4K and variable DR (up to 15.5 f-stops) sounds pretty good to me!

EDIT: Actually it does look slightly cult like. Ho-hum. Looking forward to getting another toy in April (or May, June, July....)

On Philip Bloom's blog, Alister Chapman has posted that there is something important about the picture that everyone has missed. If you look at the section at the back that holds the XQD media, it looks as though the whole thing might be detachable...

Yes it seems like the XQD module slides to the back. But what could it be covering? The design is getting interesting.

Just by looking at the camera it looks feature packed so why not exchangeable recording modules. But the rear thing could also be something to allow it being used comfortable on the shoulder.

Dunno. It's all speculation at the moment. But if you look at the part of the camera at the back where the XQD module fits, the shape cut out from the camera is a rectangle. Perhaps the R5 or something similar might attach there, even if it protrudes a bit from the camera. But if it were to replace the XQD module, there would be no simulatneous recording. Anyway, we'll know soon enough!

I didn't mean that little window where it says "XQD". I was talking about the whole unit that contains that window. From above where it says "XDCAM" to below where it says "XAVC".

Interesting. Sony did say a while ago they were going modular. If it is removable and positioned perfectly for the R5. That makes sense. I don't think they sold as many as they wished to.

I think that is clearly just a door for the XQD media. You can see where the door ends and the body itself has no seam. The door is contained entirely on the surface of the body, it's not a separate module.

Since this is clearly not an NEX camera nor a replacement for the FS700, perhaps this thread should be moved to the XDCAM area. Or XAVC area, if there is one.
And Philip Bloom says it's going to be called the FS7, which is a strange hybrid between the FS cameras and the F5/55s.
