dvx100 stolen from me

I have a feeling they are going to be like the rest. Not interested in my case due to the fact that the crime is only 2700.
Any theft over $400 in California is Grand Theft, a felony -- the police should be interested. Definitely contact the office of the State Attorney General at 800-952-5225. They have their own investigators, and while they work with the police, can track down law breakers and initiate prosecution.

I'm appauled that no police/FBI/government type department is helping you out on this.

Wait, nevermind, no I'm not...

Hope you get your money back plus some, and that this guy goes to jail.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT

Message to all you. Pray you are never in a position where you have to rely on law enforcement. I have done THEIR job in accumilating all the evidence and locating the suspects and they still are not helping me out. Last time I spoke to them they informed me they werent going to make me any promises that they were going to persue this case.

incredible

Yep, I tried to give them 100 pages of solid information with everything they needed. all they had to do was run a quick verification on the info and make an arrest. Would have been a pretty nice case for them too.

i already know where he lives. its a WASHINGTON MUTUAL cashiers check
Why are you worried then? You have the check, not only can the guy get grand theft, but he's gotta be charged with some sort of counterfeiting.

Though if I were you I would've fire bombed his house by now. Hopefully he's not alone so you can collect some "collateral."

edit: Well I hadn't read all the posts since my reply because I got caught up in that Sidekick story. But there's gotta be someone that can help you. I mean, you know where the guy lives. You can't just let this slide.

Keep posting back and let us know what's happening.

Its as if I have to take the law into my own hands

This is what i have gone through

1) Call the FBI - They tell me to contact local law enforcement. They tell me to call a certain precinct in my area.

2) Call that precinct - they tell me that crime corresnponds to another precinct.

3) call another precinct - they tell me thats not their area. And to call DISTRICT ATTORNEY of LA to deal with check fraud.

4) call DISTRICT ATTORNEY - They tell me they only deal with personal and business checks. They pimp me out to a different precinct.

5) yet another precinct - they finally do a little something. They send some officers to take my statement. They seem bored like they rather be drinking cofee and eating donuts. I ask if they are going to pursue the case. They said they cant make any promises. To take this as a 2700 lesson learn. They tell me all they are are secretaries taking notes in case i prosecute. No help at all. And that a detective would call me in four days to tell me what is going on with the case.

6) never have been called

So i am here. With knowlege of who conned me and where they are. Scratching my head as to what i am going to do

I hear ya.

I hope I didn't read insensitive in my last post, if I did I apologize. Your story really hit a nerve with me. I hate thieves. I hate them.

It's easy for me to talk tough, being the one that this didn't happen to. But I have to say I'm a firm believer in strict revenge, right or wrong. I feel like flying out there right now and helping you exact some.

RUBIX

What was the outcome with you? How did you learn to deal with it. Not saying i am going to let my situation go.

I've never had something like this stolen from me. But I have caught people stealing other things like software & computer components.

I came out of my brother's place last year to find LARGE pieces of concrete on the hood that had been pitched over the fence. Windshield shattered, hood ruined. I didn't flip out because I didn't catch them. Luckily, I've got a body guy that ups the price to eat the deductable.

About 6 months ago I was on my way to my brother's and it happened again. They nailed another guy's car in the lot (also a Nissan). This time we caught one of them - after he beaned me in the face with one of the rocks while we chased him. 16 year old kid. So instead of calling the cops right away, I smacked the crap out of him, and insisted that we have a "word" with him locked up in my brother's place. We made it appear to him that we were going to "keep" him for a very long time. Let's just say he literally pissed his pants. No school that day but a lesson learned nonetheless. We had him arrested after a few minutes and told the cops we caught him and brought him there just so he wouldn't get away.

I'm not trying to egg you on. Also, the story of your camera is more tragic, so I'm not trying to compare the two. With something like a DVX, take ALL the appropriate measures with the law. You're doing the right thing.

If you aren't helped, I wish I could tell you the right thing to do. I can't help but believe that there's an opportunity for justice in every situation, even if we have to make it ourselves. What goes around doesn't always come around but it should.

Exhaust every last legal outlet - I don't need to tell you this I know, I'm just saying it so I'm not exposed for the schizophrenic I am.

It's just that this situation sucks. My heart goes out to you.

So where is the post of you saying you are going to press charges? You have that american right you know. I would not stop until they pick the guys up.

Best,

Rob

You might also try contacting Washinton Mutual, they may have some interest as the fraudulent check was in their name.

If you get no help from legal, try calling the media. I'm sure TV stations would love to do an (exclusive) investigative report to this "unprosecusted intenet scammer's" house. As you have all the information they would need. It might help drum up support too.

Good luck with this. The guy should be hung drawn and quatered. :nads:

These guys are pros at tracking people down. Send one of their guys a message and see if they can help you.

No posts, no emails exchanged. They called me on my cell phone. After i discovered i was scammed i realized they might try to sell my equipment somewhere. Sure enough they advertised it the very place i did. They had a picture of the box of my camera with a sticker i placed from a cd i had bought the same week of my camera. Thats how i knew it was mine. Plus they put the same description i put in my add, with the same amount of hours used 48.( what a coincidence) The email selling it was HARDHITS@HOTMAIL.COM. I contacted the authorities (WHICH DID NOTHING) I contacted the recycler which blacklisted the bastards. The phone number was a 323 number. Yet they didnt have a name in the record for the person selling it, but they had a number 909. Which was similar to the person who bought my camera, she even told me she was from pomona which is where that number orignated. Two days later they posted my anamorphic lens up for sale, same description under a different email adress and number it too was pomona. I tried to set them up by trying to purchase my own lens back but they must have got wise to mE because the day we were suppoed to meet the guy said he had just sold it.

Needless to say i looked up the adress using the phone number and i saw the car of the ***** who scammed me parked right in front. (THE COPS DIDNT CARE. THEY STILL CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING)

So now here i am. feeling helpless with the law that helps NO ONE but the criminals. Thats why they get away, crime pays. And its suckers who follow the law. Plus they run a so call legitimate business and live in a nice neighborhood. But as many of you who have looked up this people email. They have frauded other people too. So their business is probably full of stolen stuff from people.

THE LAW SUCKS

I was thinking the same thing. Bring this to your local station and tell them that the police, even though you can visually identify the thief AND know his location, wouldn't arrest the criminal. That the news media is your last resort. And pester the crap out of your local police precinct, in person. It is your right. And they can't throw you out until you do something wrong. I too hate the idea of having someone who shat on me in visible range and not have anything happen. I would most certainly have exacted revenge to much more than the tune of $2,700.00.

You should save the webpages of where the listings were posted so that you have some evidence on you. Again, you should set up a page or something about it to cause some media attention. I already emailed a place about your story hoping it can start to snowball some media. Hope it works.

Yes there is also the civil angle here. If this guy has any assets ... GAME! I have to tell you, this is the kind of thing that would keep me up at night. The law casts just a shadow on justice, BUT, there are ways to make this guy pay legally (this thread is going Charle Bronson fast). Also, knowing prosecutors and AG folks, be a respectful pain in the ass, and don't take no as an answer.

Cause when the law doesn't work for you who gets the job done! JK, even though I wouldn't be averse to going all Bronson on them, I would explore legal remedies first and for a while. But if after a few weeks nothing has happened......:violent5:

EDIT : I just thought of something too, is small claims court an option? I think that Silverwolf was right that theft of that amount is a felony, but maybe this is an option.

I can't believe that with the address of the offender and a statement and proof and first hand eyewitness testimony the police won't do their job. Go to your local government official as well and have names.

this is why I buy and sell in person using Craigs-list.org . no fees..npn profit meet in a general area like coffe shop.

If buying I see and try the product before paying.
If selling I need cash before I hand it over.
