Dust inside the lens

My XH-A1 has dirt inside the front lens and it´s no way I can remove it. I heard you have to pay a lot to get it removed from Canon, but I guess its out of the question to unscrew the lens myself. Any ideas? :(

reminds me of a line from "My Cousin Vinny"...
"mud in the tires?...lemme axe you...how does mud get INTO the tire?"
sorry, no advice...I just have the line repeating in my head now.

What I have heard is that you have to change the whole lens. Well I guess I have to make a visit to Canon. :(

NO,no,no,no,no,no.....no. Fear not. I had the same problem and here's how to fix it.

Put your camera in a plastic bag or airtight box and then put it in the deep freeze. This freezes and 'dries' any moisture that is holding the dust to the glass. Leave it for about an hour to freeze, take it out as quick as you can and just tap the lens, the dust WILL fall off(if it hasn't already)
I do this to my camera at least once a month as I shoot outdoor sports.

People will say "no!!! it will ruin your camera putting it in the freezer!!!!" to which I always point out that going out in the cold doesn't ruin your camera - I shot a job in Canada when it was minus 30.......

Wow Phil,

that is a good tid bit of information. I know people shoot in freezing cold weather all the time. And you do this once a month eh? I will keep this in mind next time I find dust inside the lense.

Yeah,I have no idea how the dust gets in? But it does. I actually learned this trick when I worked as a photojournalist . I'd been in Bolivia and had about 15 TINY dust mites in the prism of a Nikon F5 and in a lens, all dead and stuck to the glass. The freezer thing worked a treat.

In the pre HD age I used a Sony PD150,I got dust in that lens and took to it with a can of compressed air - complete disaster because all you do is force more dust in!

Freeze and tap,it's the best way.
