Re: Doubleclutch MV

Ok - cool - got it ;)

Yeah - love that staccato look - been posting about that shutter speed thing for a while now - its good to see its use in your mv - finally! - John.

I too second the tint thing - it sill looks cool without though.

If you are presenting to MTV or a broadcaster spend the money and get your final cut bumped up to Betacam SP or Digital Betacam...more pro and saves them the headache.
Find out what they would want...

Re: Doubleclutch MV

Carrington - The bands clothing sponsor Gangstar is paying for the air time through Cox Cable. Apparently it will show on MTV and Fuse in all of the regions that Cox carries. The band is currently choosing their timeslots (Real World, TRL, and IMX are probably what they'll go with). We'll probably send the final product to Cox on digibeta.

Jarred - I totally agree, we wanted to show a wider establishing shot but truth is the band was only about a foot and a half from ground level. j/k We had another building to shoot from but ran out of time/light.

Vampiar - Actually we've all heard the song a couple hundred times now. lol And it has been heavily tinted/color-corrected. We will post a link to a clean version so you can see the change Shawn made.

Here is a screen grab from some b-roll we shot. It will give you an idea of the color correction (for anyone who was interested). :)

Re: Doubleclutch MV

Very nice! I'm not sure if I missed it being mentioned, but what is being used for the color correction?

Re: Doubleclutch MV

Is there any reason why the aliasing got bumped up so much after CC? Or is this the result of the way it was exported to pics? It is really noticiable in fact some of the wall details are lost in the after-CC grabs.

Re: Doubleclutch MV

(btw - in the series I posted, the pics on top are color corrected, the bottom pics are raw)

Gualbert - We're you looking at them the other way around? John and I thought the color correction brought more detail out of the wall.

Jive - Shawn is using the 3-way color corrector in FCP4.

Re: Doubleclutch MV

Thanks for the clarification. My normal thinking was before and after... that's why I thought the one on top was before CC and the bottom one after CC. Excellent job!

Re: Doubleclutch MV

I really like the clip. Reminds me of the Treble Charger video... but that's just because they're both on roofs with natural light.

I really dig the camera movement with the big red sign in the background, really adds some visual interest.

The colour correction on those frame grabs is awesome. The white in her jacket pops so nicely... FCP is really the way to go... now if only I can overcome the killer price of a decent mac system... :P

Re: Doubleclutch MV

Hmmm not sure what you mean by details were lost after the CC, might be confusing since those are posted in kind of reverse order. The pictures with the blue tint is the color corrected one. Technicaly im Uncorrecting the color to get the stylyzed look through out the video.

As for what I use to do it, just Final Cut Pro's 3 way color corrector. I much prefer to use this for any tinting of the video since using a simple color adjustment like you find in After Effects or Photoshop doesnt really adjust the whites and blacks truly, just adds over all tint. By using the color corrector I can tell it what I want it to consider white and grey and black, which in this case was telling it white is light blue, mids are cyan, and blacks are black but cranked down even more, mids are also pulled down a bit to add to the shadows and create more contrast.

I wasnt in the office for the pics that are posted of the color correction so Casey just dropped my presets on the timeline for it. When i get down to setting up the color correction for each shot i spend a lot of time tweaking each individual element so there is some continuity, or break continuity in tone and tint as is required per the shot.
