Does anyone use the kit lens for anything?

But you have said yourself (several times) that you would not use the 7D professionally. Has something changed?
I would not trust a paying job to an SLR that has the kinds of limitations that the current crop has.

But just because I think it's a bad idea, doesn't change the fact that there are lots of people out there doing all sorts of things with them.

I think they have their place, and in the right circumstances they can do amazing things, for the price. As a B- or C-camera, as a crash cam, as a close-up camera in tight spots, sure. But using a DSLR as the "A" camera on a paying job? No way. Not for me. Others can do as they feel appropriate, but I'll wait for the next generation.

(and btw, nothing in that statement is singling out the 7D -- I wouldn't use any of the DSLRs as the A-camera in a professional capacity, not the 7D, not the GH1, not the 5D, not the 1D Mark IV, not the D90 or D300s... )

My Grandmother (RIP) used to tell me: "You can put a real nice party dress on a sow and take her to the prom but you'll still be dancing with a pig."

Maybe you will change your mind once the D900 comes out!! LOL

I'm not gona lie I use my Kit lens for everything 28-135/ 3.5. I dont mind this lens one bit... I havent bought another lens because I am waiting for the new 24-70 L series with IS

Now that you've said it, I feel like I can chime in. Me 2 on the 28-135 / 3.5 IS kit lens. Best $200 I've spent so far.

I like my 28-135. Not great in low light though. But if this lens does great for video, it makes me wonder about using an ultrazoom like a tamron 18-270 vc. It's super cheap for the range it covers

I've been shooting interviews with the 18-135mm kit lens. I've had good success. Still relatively new to DSLR lenses though.

We just used the 7d on a bunch of interviews professionally. And recording a speech etc. We also had the Canon xl h1. The 7d looked so much better it wasn't even funny.

If you know what you're doing the 7d is absolutely awesome.

Hey Ryan, what kind of sharpening do you do in FCP if you do not mind?
I was just going through which lens to pick up, but your frame grab has me convinced that the kit lens is absolutely fine for video.

28-135mm .
Its a very good day or daylight lens .The DOf is not to shallow, IS works ... Im working on a light kit now.....funny thing though
The 7d has made me realize how important a good light setup is plus I got a decent budget to work with now :)
