Hi Everyone,

Do you need an adaptor to place a Nikon lens onto a GH2 body? I've heard Nikon lenses work on GH2s but don't know if they need an adaptor to do so.

Thanks

And be sure to avoid adapters with aperture control rings if you're using manual-focus or AF-D Nikon lenses.

Care to elaborate? Based on the product descriptions, I was under the impression that these adapters with aperture control rings for G-type lenses also work with older Nikon lenses as well.

Yes, they work with all Nikon F-mount lenses, but not reliably. In practice, the machining of the adapter's aperture ring is not tight enough that you can securely set it to the position you want and rely on it to stay that way. If you're not going to use it with Nikon G lenses, the redundant adapter aperture ring is just one more thing that can silently malfunction on you.

I see, so the adapter's aperture ring can also adjust the aperture of F-mount lenses with manual aperture adjustment?

Yes, it's just a simple mechanical device that can override the lens' aperture ring setting.

Thanks, good to know. The aperture adjustment ring on my FD adapter can simply be rotated to the "Open" state where it has no effect on the lens' aperture (and thus does not need to be depended upon to maintain a specific aperture setting). Is this not possible with these adjustable Nikon adapters?
