Haha, well thanks for figuring all this out. Going on a shoot tomorrow and the director has already requested my slider! :)

nice^
good take on the legs, though i like to have every precious inch of length on the rail, so i went with Zaza's feet...they're also built like a rock!

i like the handgrips...cost?

Hey Guys,

I have been looking through this thread to see what type of tripod head would work best for vertical shots using the 5DMK2.

Do you all have any suggestions? My father-in-law is helping me put feet on the Igus slider but I want to do some vertical shots as well.

Let me know ASAP if you have a good suggestion or something that you know works well with the 90degree position of the camera while doing verticals.

Thanks!

Quick question for those who have either built a slider or own one. I'm wondering what the best length is for operating on top of a tripod. Is 39"/ 100cm about as long a length as will work on a tripod, or will a longer length work? Any opinions about what you like best.

1000mm (39") is just right for use on a single tripod...any longer & I'd go with 2 tripods to be safe.

Instead of doing what everyone else did I went on both sides of the coin by doing an 800mm and 1500mm slider. Its great! 800 transports easy with a single tripod for travel work and the 1500 will be ready for more technical shots when needed (not needed as of yet). Wet with seperate carriages and heads for each so I wouldnt have to keep rearranging.

Yeah... I've been using a 700mm & 1000mm for the past year, the 1000mm on a tripod and the 700mm w/brake mod. on a tripod and as a shoulder mount, works out great!

...and for those wanting to save money, you can use the same carriage on either rail, cutting costs.

How to video for a bridge zaza

How to video for a bridge zaza

I just made a how-to video for a zaza slider that is bridged between two tripods HERE.
Check it out!

Very nice Peter... thanks for the plug...but that sucker will support a tank! LOL!
Beautiful build. Really though, the 16-60mm rail would hold your rig with ease.

Side note... I know your sawhorse was plastic, but people need to know that you should never ding or chip the actual rail, so please people, never flip the rail down on a hard surface unless it's covered with something soft. Protect that rail.

Can't wait to see some of the film you shoot with it! Great job.

Padded sleeve for the zaza rail

Padded sleeve for the zaza rail

Wave Products in Salt Lake City made me a padded zip up sleeve for my slider rail. It was pretty cheap and protects the rail when I transport it, clamped to the back of my snowmobile. Watch video above for more info on Wave.

I have two rails a 1Meter and a .3Meter both have end support points as well as a center point . For light camera the center support is fine on a single tripod.
I've also played with asymmetrical cants, on two tripods, which can be cool.
The thing with one tripod is you MUST anchor the legs with sandbags if you don't want a jerk in the middle of your slide.

Pete, Good work on the video. I live my 20-80 rail system. I have never tried the 16-60, but I have always loved overkill, and it looks a lot more professional than the smaller rails. Keep up the good work.

Derrick.... I assure you, the 16-60 looks just as professional.
Your 80mm is only 3/4" wider and doesn't make that much of a difference
except for being a bit heavier. You should check out the 16-60 some day.
