DIY IndieSlider...

Derrick.... I assure you, the 16-60 looks just as professional.
Your 80mm is only 3/4" wider and doesn't make that much of a difference
except for being a bit heavier. You should check out the 16-60 some day.

Smaller diameter rails= less contact surface = less friction = smoother slide

I'm lobbying for a monorail some day:violin:

Yeah but less surface area means more pressure on the remaining surface area. It is true, less friction to contend with, but I think the larger surface area means a better resistance to deformation of the track.

Hey zaza,

We just finished our last video and utilized the slider you made. I think the shots came out really good. The shots with the slider are the first and the last shots with the girl playing. I am very impressed with the quality. Best of all, I can travel with the slider....fits in my tripod bag.

Thanks again.

Great job on the video! Nice work with that slider.... glad you like it.
(FYI.... I built Greenroot a custom 750mm ZazaSlider Complete.)

Inches to Milimetres parts

Inches to Milimetres parts

Hello, Can someone tell me please what parts in milimetres I need to buy?... Because I apply the formula but is not exactly.
For example:

- The drill bit 5/16th inch is 0,793 mm. This mean I need to buy a drill bit of 8mm.?

- The 3/8-16 hex head bolt; 1/2" - 3/4" in length. Ok here I'm lost :crybaby:

Looking foward to have any response...

Thank you!

Zaza,

Wanted to show you my demo reel. See what you can spot your slider being used in!

Unfortunately, the threading on the hole I drilled next to the original stripped off yesterday during a shoot. Any tips? Do I keep drilling new holes? What can I do to prevent the stripping!

Nice reel! Looks like you get quite a bit of use out of that slider.

You might want to get a QR system and mount a plate on the botom of the rail. I don't understand how that can keep stripping so easy. I still use my original slider that's over 2 years old now, hasn't stripped once yet.... and it's the pre-drilled rail so there's only about 2 threads.

Take care screwing it on and off, sometimes it's easier to lay the rail face down on the floor and screw the tripod to the rail. You might be tipping the rail back & forth when unscrewing it causing it to strip.

That's about all I can think of....

Haha, I am behind the scenes on this one. I was running one of the 7D cameras (we used two of them). I am one of the executive producers on Beat Down Boogie that is in pre-production.

We have another video coming where we made plaster plates that I get hit in the head with one.

To see me, just have a look at www.asylumstudioproductions.com, you can't miss me there!

:)

Hey Zaza,

So this means having a second head for the QR plate to attach to?

I don't know if this has been covered in this thread before.

I recently saw a video on Vimeo where Paul Joy demonstrated his use of Manfrotto 394 together with his slider (not ZaZa though).

I was interested and ordered two sets of Manfrotto 394. They were easy to mount on my tripod and ZaZa-slider - the first one on the tripod screw and at the bottom of the rail. The other was mounted between the slider and the video head.

It works great, is very sturdy and so easy to click on and off.

I soon realised that I had a spinn-off effect. When I wanted to use the camera handheld I clicked it off together with the video-head giving me...

1. a better grip of the camera
2. a very useful shoulder rest (the video-head's bar)
3. a possibility to put the camera on to a flat surface and pan and tilt it.

This is the link to Vimeo.

I was wondering if it's possible to get replacement drylin bearings in case one breaks or doesn't slide smoothly anymore. Then I would be more comfortable applying the carriage break with the thumb screw on the bearing. Anyone knows whether these bearings are available seperately?

Thanks!
