FEATURE: DEUCE OF SPADES - How I made a period full feature film all by myself on ZERO budget

Wow, Faith. I'm so glad to see you're still on here and still kicking ass and taking names:) While I'm still complaining about mistakes made on my first feature from years ago, you're here gutting it out. No excuses.

Love it and hope the very best for you.

What a great inspiration. Can't wait to get my hands on the film when it's available.

Best,

J.

This is a great looking shot! He looks like a young Ricky Nelson (my boyhood idol).
:engel017:

Yeah Little Rickie was HOT wasn't he?

(Oooops, did I just say that out loud?) LOL

Dang, he sure looks like Johnny! Or is it the other way around?

Today's grab:

Hey Faith, how's everything going?

Good :) I am finally seeing the light out of the Paypal mess tunnel. Pretty much everyone has re-ordered their DVD and I can move forward from here. You are next on my list :).

This last week I entirely redesigned my online Press kit and wrapped up re-orders, as well as sent DOS out to Denver, where it will be promoted and screened, in the form of several short clips and interviews, on a huge screen at largest indoors hot rod show in Rocky Mountain area.

This coming week I do my interview for you, I redo my film card and send them off to the printer, and also prepare material for what will be to date the HUGEST review DOS will ever get. I hear through the grape vine it might be as large as TWELVE PAGES... In a prime French hot rod magazine.

:engel017:

Of course I also finalize my 'short' version and prepare another private screening at my house to test the new approach.

Looks like I'm gonna be busy

That's exactly what it is, Faith. You can now embed Vimeo clips directly using the following text (where 00000 is the number of your Vimeo clip)…

[2vimeo]00000[/2vimeo]

I've added the number 2 above so you can see the text, but don't include this in your posting.

The blue button provides the above "tags" and you insert your Vimeo clip number.

NEW!!

NOW YOU CAN FOLLOW DEUCE OF SPADES ON TWITTER!!

http://twitter.com/deuceofspadesmv

:D

I'm sure you all know twitter and what it does, but just in case you don't:
It's free and what it does is basically send you a one to two sentence update daily on what I am up to with the film. So you can follow closely...

If you want you can even tell it to send it to you via text.

On my end I can twit via my i-phone. So no matter where I am I can let you know what is going on... Way cool

Oh, I only twit once a day, so you won't be overloaded with info.

Yeah, I'm a "Twittie" bird

Stayed up until 2AM last night racking my brains on how to rewrite the narration to gel the reintroduced shots / snipits of scenes with the body of the film. I think I got it.

So as I stand right now I have only lost 2 small scenes, reduced dramatically 3 more and tightened the rest of them... Time saved: 30 minutes

Current film length went from 2:40 to 2:10.

Production value lost = 0.0000001 % LOL

This week-end I go back on location to film one night shot for a CGI, one night shot insert for my passion pit scene and one very small scene I am adding to scene 2. So it will make more sense to the audience. I have promised myself I will make NO PANS on this so to save time. Pans are beautiful but boy oh boy do they eat screen time like crazy LOL...

I'm learning ;)

Sorry to read (on your blog) about the loss of your friend. I recently lost my nephew (age 18). I just got back from visiting the family California.

As promised, I have finally got around to pre-ordering your DVD. I am very much looking forward to seeing it and I have been posting and tweeting about it to spread the word.

Thank you so much for your support... I am sorry about your nephew... 18 seems much too early for a life to end. I recently met a fan of the film at a car show who told me his son's name was JOHNNY CALLAWAY (the gentleman's last name is Callaway). Said his son was shot and killed for standing up to some gang guy - he was only 17... :(

Sad story.

At least my friends had long lives... I wish they could have seen the film though... They noth were so looking forward to it...

(sigh)...

Loaded up my gear Saturday at 4AM and headed out to a last minute additional shoot. We decided it might be a good idea to expend a bit more on the purchase of deuce at the beginning of the film, as some people were getting confused. Can't say I was thrilled about having to go back into Production when I was hoping to be all done with POST soon - rats - but part of me was tickled to be behind the camera again.

After filming non stop for 2 years, the last 2 months, spent editing, left me with a bit of separation anxiety as my beloved HVX-200 and I were apart. I wondered if I would remember how to use it LOL.

Verdict? It's like riding a bike: YOU NEVER FORGET!

As soon as I grabbed it and pulled it out of its case it was like a fish thrown back into a pond, and I was swimming happily soon as I hit that water hehehehe...

It was pretty darn cold, with a bad storm on the horizon and doing pick up shots for a scene where I (as an actress) was only wearing a tiny tank top was - to say the least - BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR - torture. I was FREEZING to death.

We spent the week-end on location in Fillmore and with a crew of 2 on Sat and 3 on Sunday and I felt very spoiled. The boys took great care of me, carrying the gear, loading and unloading, sparing my injured knees.

On my end, I felt pretty drained, like I'm finally running out of juice. I was sick Friday but didn't want to cancel so push came to shove I did the 2 day shoot, including a night shoot sSt that went until 2AM.

I live to tell the tale :).
